PS3 refused to connect to internet

I have a BT Broadband line going through to a Zyxel modem, which in turn is hooked upto a Belkin MiMo Router. My PS3 detects the network but will not connect. Every time it searched for an IP address it times out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's my brother's PS3 and I've promised him it'd be nice and simple to set up :)

Is DHCP enabled on the MiMo router? Wireless on wired connection?

A friend set up the network so tbh I've no clue about DHCP---how do I check? Yeah it's a BT wired connection from the phoneline to modem, then an ethernet cable from the modem to the router, and wireless from there.

(Thanks for the quick reply btw!)

ok, why are you using the zyxel modem? can you not just use the belkin on its own?

Hang on, are you saying you have a router, hooked into another router? I assume you mean you have the zyxel.. which does have DHCP etc enabled but no wireless hooked in to a wireless belkin router? Is this an actual wireless router with a WAN port? Or is it a combo DSL modem/router? If the latter then it will not work with DHCP, If the former then it "should" work. either way, your friend does not sound like he knows what he is doing.

Has this been tested with a laptop on wireless?

are you positive you are using the correct encryption key?
Also make sure the wireless router does not have anything fancy set up as the PS3 only works with basic wireless B/G setup. Some routers have options that will not work on the PS3 like G+ only i believe is one i have on my zyxel router.

I have a macbook, xbox360, dell pc and advent pc all running smoothly off the wireless network smoothly. They can access the internet perfectly.

The encryption key is right. And the router doesn't have a modem built in, hence why I've hooked it into the Zyxel. Now I'm stuck:(

I have a Macbook, an XBox360, a Dell PC and an Advent PC al capable of working of the wireless network perfectly. The Beklin isn't a combo, it's a plain router. The encryption key is definitely correct. The router is a G+ but I don't know how that can be switched off.

OK then so the setup seems good... however would it be a case that the signal is not too great where the PS3 is? The Ps3 wireless is not very good, nowhere near as good as a laptop.

I had a similar problem where i have the Ps3 so i run a cable and installed wall panels in the house.

See what has me baffled is the fact that the PS3 states it's picking up at least a 75% signal...

I don't understand things like DHCP and MTU but I know they're probably the root of the problem:(

OK try this, its happened to me but I may also be crazy.
when entering wireless password or any password on ps3, when you have entered all the characters of your password and then press enter/start, it can add an extra space to the end.
Count the * entered and see are they're more than the characters of your password.

The PS3 wireless is super fast and as good as any PC if you know how to set it up correctly!!

Thats rubbish! I had my laptop (two laptops in fact) beside my PS3 and the laptop had a 100% signal but the PS3 had less than 50%
