Interesting... 24 megapixels? So no D3 low-light performance then?

Good to see the competition heating up!

sony is the main provider of sensors to Nikon and other brands
but usually we see the sensor in a sony camera well before any other brand start using it

Admittedly it's all speculation, but according to this, it could be specifically with Nikon in mind that Sony developed this sensor.

But Nikon make changes to the Sony sensors and configure it to their own standards I thought I read somewhere?

Anyway - it's nice to see technology improving (damn you Moore!) I'm fine with my humble 6mp camera :)

Nikon seems to go on and off designing the chips for their high end cameras. Sometimes they design it themselves see d1 + d3. Sometimes they modify another company's (sony) design see d2. I'd say there are very few people on who actually know the truth about who does what when it comes down to it.

I would be surprised if Sony developed that chip for it's own exclusive use...but I'd also be surprised if Nikon used it in the high resolution D3 body. I'm excited to find out.

Due for release by the end of this year as well? Can't imagine it'll be cheap either.
