Anyone done any work in qatar.

Mate of mine was offered to go out for 3 months 800 week basic with apartment and flights paid for. he will have a visa and it seems all above board.

He want his kid and girlfriend to go with him any chance they could go on a holiday visa?

he was thinking that he might get a bigger apartment once he gets out there with herself.

Anyone any experience suggestions etc etc

Tourist visas are only for 14 days IIRC so they'd have to leave the country and re-enter every fortnight, theres also a fine for overstaying your Visa I think.

I've been in Qatar working on and off (Maximum stay at present 1 Month) and theres a big enough Irish crowd there if you know where to look.

right and family visa would i presume need for him to be married.

    I read here

    http://www.iexplore.com/dmap/Qatar/Visa+and+Health
    Types of Visa and Cost
Prices vary according to nationality. The following prices are for British nationals: single-entry: £36; multiple-entry: £50 (six months), £71 (two years), £130 (five years) (depending on validity).

I know it says british nationals can irish people avail of this or am i missing something.

Thats correct, I generally just buy the single entry 14 day visa at the passport control desk on the way into the county, works out at about €20 (only accept credit cards at passport control so make sure that it works there, they will not accept cash and they wouldnt hesitate to leave you sitting either I imagine). Even with the multi-entry visa they're still going to have to leave and return, trying to do that every two weeks would be a nightmare. They also wouldnt be eligable for a business visa as the company has to sponsor them. COuld he ask the employers if they can swing his family a visa ? I'm sure most places wouldnt have a problem with it ?

Also tell your friend to make sure his company sorts out an Exit visa for him before he comes home, I never knew I needed one and almost got caught out at the Passport control on the way out. Thankfully our administration guys got me sorted out in time.

looks like the company just want him out. He thought he could head out ahead of them and get set up a week later herself and the kid could come out on a holiday visa and stay with him while he works away.

so what your saying once there out there they can extend the holiday for 3 months just the once?

    Sorry if im repeating myself

    http://www.travisa.com/Instructions/QatarInst.htm

    Visa validity
Tourist - Visas are valid for 3 months and allow one month stay, single entry
Business - It is based on application and consul's decision.

However I think if they apply to the embassy there they may be able to get a longer stay if they can put forward a decent case. A lot of the sites seem to have conflicting information.

He should go out himself to suss it out, if it turns out to be a scam or anything he only has himself to sort out.
If it's all above board it'd probably be pretty easy to source someone over the there who'd know the story, or who was in the same situation.
Also if he's set up in a good job it might be easier to get the girlfriend over on a longer visa

I can be correct on this but for the UAE , I got over 30 days or it could have been longer (I will check my passport tonight).

All EU citizens get that just with a quick stamp at the airport as a tourist visa. You could always flight out from qatar to dubai and then come back in again to get another 30 days.

Don't know if its the same.
