    afternoon,
I want to buy a reverb pedal so I do and as always can't break the bank. I get decent reverb off the amp but need something to step on every so often to take us into aeroplane hanger territory :)

    was looking at this http://www.thomann.de/ie/behringer_dr_100.htm

Very cheap obviously - too good to be true?

    any opinions or experiences?

any other suggestions other than going straight for the BOSS? Which I confess I'm guilty of before...silly really. Looking for something with decent quality reverb but also with a good degree of versatility

I picked up a second hand ElectroHarmonix Holy Grail reverb pedal at the weekend. Haven't actually tried it yet, I'll let you know tomorrow.

They're very good for the price. I've used their overdrive pedal, and it would really exceed your expectations. But the key phrase here is for the price, so it's not going to compare to a top of the line pedal, just that it's much better than you'd expect a 20 euro pedal to be.

The Electro Harmonix pedal the Doc mentions is a fantastic, so that would certainly be one to try out.

Main problem i've got with the Behringer pedals (or any other cheap pedal) is that your signal chain is only as good as it's weakest link, so i'm always wary of any pedal that could introduce noise, crackling, signal-degredation, 'tone-suck' etc. So, in any pedal, you want good contacts, noise-free circuit, good bypass etc.

Also, its a digital pedal, meaning it takes whatever signal that gets passed into it, chops it up and turns it into 1s and 0s. If you lose anything in the A->D process, you're not getting it back. Quality D/A convertors are what you're looking for here, and im not sure what they'd be like in a 40euro pedal.

That said, it's a e40 euro pedal, so it's not like the e13 euro ones that have been discussed here before. It can't be that bad, certainly no worse than some of it's (more expensive) rivals...the likes of EH cetainly arent 'high-quality' either, plenty of their pedals are pretty low-rent.

And it's probably good value for money....meh, i'd say take a chance on it...

    please do, i'd appreciate it.

Voodoo, interesting point on the 'weakest link' scenario - something I wouldn;t have thought of , or known of for that matter ...

i suppose if 'm gonna have it for a while and I know i'm gonna use it I should try and stretch the extra few squid for a 'sure thing' like the EM might be

Well, all I mean by that is....you can have a couple of quality pedals, good cables, clean power-supply, guitar with good shielding & p/ups....etc., but it's all wasted if you throw a crappy pedal in there that picks up radio signal (some wah's do that) or kill's all of your high-end freq's when you turn the pedal off.

I'm not saying the Behringer pedal will do this, i've no experience of that particular one, but it's just something to bear in mind when you're deciding between quality and value-for-money. You might save 20 quid on a cheap pedal, but if it's fukcing up the tone of your entire rig that you spend hundreds (or thousands) on, it can be a false economy.

i have a digiverb, it's pretty noisy when engaged/the bypass hisses a bit

but it's got a lot of options and sounds fab

Ran a strat into a reverbless 59 Basssman last night, gotta say I definitely like the Holy Grail. Really nice. It gets a bit noisy if you go to in-a-church/down-a-cave levels of reverb, but for a touch of ambience and taking the sharpness out of a tone it's deadly. Yeah, I like it.

I have the Holy Grail too and I love it (although I haven't noticed any noise at larger levels of reverb (the only level I use :))) but the Boss reverb pedal is pretty nice too. More options on it IIRC. Try them both, most shops have them in stock most of the time.

I have a line 6 verbzilla, it sounds great & has a load of options (including the ridiculously awesome octo reverb). This versatility isn't all that useful live though - it's too fiddly to mess around with multiple reverb settings.

The holy grail is tempting with it's one switch / one knob approach.

    cheers for that lads.

I've also been looking into putting a cathrdral on wheels and rolling it into whereever we're playing. Sounds like a bit o hassle so will probably go looking at the above

    appreciate the pointers
