Mail vs Entourage

    Ever since i first used a mac, ive had problems with using Mail for email. It wont send my emails.

    My settings are correct as the same SMTP detail works fine with Entourage. Anyone else have similar problems?

    If the details are for an Exchange server it may cause problems for Mail.

    Can't say I've seen the menus for configuring outgoing mail but from experience.

    Are you sure the SMTP config is the same for Mail and Entourage?
    As in is the SMTP server set for TLS or SSL and if SSL is if v2 or v3?

    I've seen MS products simplify the menu in the past by just offering a checkbox for secure connection.

    What errors does it give you? Logs etc?

    I would prefer Mail over Entourage any day. The new version of Entourage has *awful* Exchange support still, so much so that I can't use it and have to run Outlook in a VM at work :(

    I love mail. I send and receive mail from my o2 (which is my main email), my mac email and my gmail all from mail. I have never had any problems.

    The only thing is i find that since upgrading to Leopard it seems to be a bit slower sending mail, but it is not awful slow. People are saying Leopard is slower than Tiger, the only way i find this to be so is when you send mail.

    Is O2 your ISP ? If not then you can't use their SMTP server to send. You'll have to use your ISPs server.

    Im using my ISP's SMTP server to send, like i say it works fine with Entourage with the same settings.

    Sorry . . I must learn to read someday :rolleyes:

    The usual problems with Mail are the SSL being set to on by default in the Advanced tab of Mail preferences but I'm guessing you've already been through that.

    Have you checked the logs to spot any errors or use the activity window to see what's going on ?

    I will recheck later on when i get home. From what i remember it just times out when sending.
