Well, does anyone know for sure whether or not it is possible to play on the ipoker network while residing in Dubai? I may be moving out there in the near future and wanted to be sure that i could play online poker (in particular ipoker) while there. The reason i ask is because gambling is illegal out there. I have contacted my skin regarding this issue and they have told me that they can see no problem with me accessing my account from the UAE (they did not give me a definite yes)... but i would like to be 110% sure. Cheers

You will run into problems in Dubai in accessing most gambling, and lots of other, sites if you are connecting through a publicly available network like a hotel's wireless network or one of the local telecoms wireless that you buy prepaid cards for.
If I remember correctly the last time I tried it I was able to use a pre installed and configured Ipoker client on some networks but not others but I could never contact the homepage for the site i.e Paddy Power or GJP. Betfair I was almost always to let the poker client run but again no access to the website. (Same goes for Racing post .com which was owned by Sheik Mohammad the head honcho in Dubai!)
The best thing you can do of you are there for any time is to get a 3G connection.

    Dubai - you're snookered.
    Abu Dhabi - ok.

    Each Emirate has different rules.

Yep, i've done further research on this matter and most if not all online poker sites are blocked in Dubai... as are pr0n sites etc. (that was a right kick in the balls)
Anyway, for any of you that are interested, you are not completely snookered...Google 'VPN' and 'poker' and there are many sites which offer a service to get around this problem

Most sites should have a list of places that they can't allow connections from. I know GJP does as I noticed it yesterday, and noticed that Israel is on it twice!!!
