Poulter eating something funny that gone to his head

Ian Poulter is set to infuriate his rival professionals after claiming he is the only one capable of challenging world number one Tiger Woods.

The world number 22 made his comments in the March edition of Golf World.

"The trouble is I don't rate anyone else," said the extrovert Englishman. "Don't get me wrong, I respect everyone who is a professional.

"But the problem is I haven't played to my full potential yet. And when that happens it will just be me and Tiger."

Woods has 13 majors and 85 career titles to his name, while Poulter has won seven tournaments.

The pair will both be competing at the Dubai Desert Classic, which starts on Thursday.

Poulter's comments are sure to see him ridiculed by some of his counterparts on the golf circuit.

And reports suggest his fellow professionals may all give each other a prearranged signal on the driving range in Dubai and leave just Poulter and Woods practising.

Poulter was asked for his predictions on who would win the four majors this year and he said Woods would win the Masters and that he would win the US Open.

He did not offer any names for the Open or USPGA

I presume he is joking here

Perhaps he should spend as much time at his golf as he does on his hair and clothes.

:D That made me laugh. Brilliant! Who said the ET has no characters??? You have to admire him in a small way though because the thing is, I 'd say most of the pros out there, and especially in the top 50 in the world, think like that. It's just that he's probably the only one stupid and vain enough to say it to a journalist. :D

Sometimes you have to believe you are the best to be able to beat the best. He is yet unroven but who knows? The Americans have had that attitude for years about being better than the Europeans. Just cause he is English he is ridiculed. Lets see if his skill can cash the cheques his mouth is writing.

Haha... classic stuff. I'd say he's got to be on the wind-up with that. He's known as a bit of a joker so i wouldn't be surprised.

He's nowhere near good enough to be in the world's top 20, let alone the top 2!

I have to agree here, the guy is an absolute twat. He can't compete with anyone at the top of the PGA tour or the European Tour on a regular basis. If you gave Tiger one arm and a dose of piles he'd still murder Poulter.

Rory Sabbatini has been humbled for shouting his mouth off, but at least he has some game and is a fiery little bugger. Remember Stephen Ames fancying his chances in the World Matchpay, 9 and 8, enough said!

Jesus, I hate Poulter even more now!

I'm not sure, I think this may be taken out of context - Poulter actually seems to me like he's probably more down to earth than his zany appearance would suggest... I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's on some kind of wind-up here...

On the other hand, if he's not - then he's living in La-La Land... If you were to start naming people who you thought were the next best thing to Tiger, you'd likely name 30 or 40 others before arriving at Poulter!

He might fail the up and coming drugs test if he keeps coming out with rubbish like that

It's early days in Dubai but right now there's 8 strokes and 75 other golfers between Poulter and Woods.. :D

McIlroy has made a great start!

That round from Woods was pretty impressive. 7 birdies and no dropped shots. Then again, that's just average Tiger these days.

Very nice start in general by Irish...

    T8|McGrane|-4 after 18
    T8|McDowell|-4 after 14
    T23|Lawrie|-3 after 10
    T23|Murphy|-3 after 12
    T31|McGinley|-2 after 16
    T31|McIlroy|-2 after 16

    T92|Clarke|+2 after 18

    I Like Poulter btw ;) (he's -2 after 15)

Watched a little on Sky. They mentioned the Poulter thing and had a little giggle about it.

I don't think hes stupid enough to say something like that sarcastically, he's simply a disillusioned arrogant cock (who will never even win a major or enter the worlds top 10).

    1|Tiger|-7 after 18

    T2|McDowell|-5 after 18
    T2|Murphy|-5 after 18
    T12|McGrane|-4 after 18

    T41|Lawrie|-2 after 17
    T51|McGinley|-1 after 18
    T92|Clarke|+2 after 18

    Great to see :D

Great start by McDowell and Murphy. Would love to see Damien McGrane put four good rounds together. Very steady player over the last few years. I reckon he has the game to win a tournament or two in Europe. He's no Ian Poulter though.. ;)

Great stuff! Oh how I yearn for my college days when many a Thursday's classes were skipped in favour of watching the first round of various European Tour events! :(

    Lawrie birdied 18 for a 69 and T27 too.
Gary Murphy came home in 31 (-4 for the 9, he started on 10 today)....
    Happy days.

It's a great field though and VERY tight at the top.... Stenson, Garcia, Els at -4, Jiminez, Dyson etc at -5

It actually looked like he was about to cry! He said what he said but now he realises what a prick he made of himself! As Ewen Murray said on the coverage. If he really didnt say it in that context then surely the journalists dictaphone shoult clear it right up!

McGrane has the lead in the clubhouse on -7. Great performance with such a top field. Would love to see him play with Tiger tomorrow!!

Tiger being interviewed after winning in Dubai

Interviewer: There's a bigger gap between you and Mickleson, the number 2 in the world, than between the number 2 and 1,000 in the World, what's your secret?

Tiger: I thought Ian Poulter was 2nd in the World?

    :D:D:D

Lol! Fair play to him, he's well able to have a laugh. I bet Poulter feels like a prize twat!

I still haven't read the whole article with Poulter so I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt to an extent...

But, on face value, it really looks like an even more ill-advised statement than Casey's "We hate Americans on Ryder Cup week" clanger of a couple of years back.

Apparently all the other pros were going to leave the range as Poulter entered, leaving just himself and Woods (the worlds two best players:rolleyes:)

Unfortunately him and Woods weren't there at the same time. Would have been priceless.
