New Sky+ box?

    Hi All,

I was quoted €195 for a new Sky + box from Sky,no way would they reduce the price even after a marathon haggling session and threats of cancelling. My exisiting box is not working , tried everything, and when Sky did a check they confirmed it was faulty. My question is as follows, is there anywhere where you can get this cheaper or is this a good price? It seems unfair as a new sub is only €150 with Sky + installation.

Im thinking of cancelling and re-registering in the wifes name to avail of new equipment etc and for €50 cheaper, bit of a hassle but it may be an option.

Is €190 a good price or is there anywhere where you can get them cheaper?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

i did that , my sky box died so i applied online for a new connection in my hubbys name, its 150 euro for sky plus and i got a second normal sky box free for multiroom, only have to pay the extra 15 euro a month for the multiroom, and installition was free also, you have to pay by cc but i was able to use my sisters , i would reccomend you do that

If its just the box and not a new card you want. there are plenty of boxes on a certain well known online auction site. Far cheaper than sky are offering. And it saves all the hastle of re-registering and waiting for install.

Hi Listermint , I thought of that but it actually it dosnt work out that cheaper with delivery charges etc, there isnt a whole lot of choices for new boxes on ebay to be honest.

I should really say that I dont want Sky anymore so am cancelling and then the wife will order again. Even in a different name it will be the same address , does this matter? would Sky have a problem with this, and the fact when i get the free insatllation and the guy sees there is a dish there already!!anyone?

hi was only a week waiting on the install, when you order online they give you the install date at the end, they actually gave me a date for a sunday but they then sent an email saying it was on the monday, i got my new cards after about 4 days, i ordered on the friday and was connected the monday of the week after, and the installer actually moved my dish as he said the signal wasnt great, just make sure you have your phone near you on the day of install as they rang me to confirm at 7-45 in the morning, and also insist on them replacing all the cables coming in from the dish and the lnb, btw they had no problem with the same address under a different name just make sure you give them a different phone number than the one thats on your sky account at the moment, maybe a mobile instead of landline

Cheeres , thanks for the info!

My only concern was the same address!

no probs, happy viewing and also dont forget if you know someone else with sky you can do the reccomend a friend(the friend being your wifes name) and i think thats a 75 euro cheque for you both so therefore you get your new box and a 75 euro cheque and a free month of sky so the box is practically paying for itself

Am thinking of doing the same thing, as my dish & fixings are pretty much rotted away & I lose signal every time there's a slight breeze or a fluffy white cloud overhead. :(

They want €150 to replace the dish, but for that money a new subscriber will get Sky+ as well, yes? So am thinking to cancel existing account & start a new one in wife's name. But do Sky not cop on that you're using the same phone line as an old account?

Just curious about that, cos we don't have a landline in our new house anyway. Some of Sky's pages are down, does anyone know how much extra they'll charge to install without a landline?

Also, am I right in thinking that the "recommend a friend" deal of offering you both a Sky + box is gone?

My father has a Sky+ box that he is no longer using (upgraded to HD) so if you are not too fussy about it being a new box then I'm sure some sort of deal could be done. It's one of the newer Sky+ boxes that has anytime available on it. My old Sky+ box is only the 40GB version with no anytime, that one's already got a buyer though :D. In Cork so delivery charges won't apply!

The address shouldn't be a problem, however do NOT offer the same phone number! If your phonenumber is already on their system, they'll not let you re-subscribe as a new customer, and avail of relevant deal.

Guys if you can wait a few days I've heard they're are about to revise the price of Sky HD, might be worth hanging on for.

I heard it mentioned on the technology segment of Matt Cooper's show on Today FM earlier (about SkyHD getting cheaper).

The additional €15 pm is still a killer for me though. I'd rather pay 449 and not pay the continuous monthly charge.

Yeah the wholesale price has not changed so unless the 15pm gets dropped cant see it shaking things up too much as retailers may be reluctant to wait the many months it takes to get paid by sky for the price difference.

Thats good to hear, however, how can you get over the phone number issue?? Dont they need the phone number to ring back after installation? is there a way around that?

I am nearly sure that they have our wrong phone number on the system as when we were giving details to sales guy when we signed up we only had phone in a few days and gave him wrong number, we told sky a few times but they never seem to be able to find our details when you give them the phone number and dont seem to have corrected this mistake! although I couldnt bank on that 100%.

Thanks for the info Tony, I wouldnt mind HD to be honest but the €449 is just too much and also the 15p/m is a killer. I hope they reduce price on both counts! Ill wait and see just to be on safe side I think.

Cheers for the offer, it would be good if you could give me a price, just PM me details also, model, how old it is etc and can arrange collection if happy.

    Cheers!
