    Ok, Croke Park Virgin...

Where's good to park & walk? how much time to allow?

Plan B, may involve meeting at Connolly Stn, how long to allow for the walk to Canal end?

    Cheers

I'd say walking from Conolly is your best bet.
Should be about 15-20 minutes walk

You can walk there from O'Connel St in 15 mins too.

From O'Connell Street, Turn down Parnell St [By Belvo School and our mini Chinatown], Go left at the end, go up toward Mountjoy Sq [past the excellent Hill 16 pub!]. Go to the far side of the square there and you are basically at Croker!

I've seen over the past at GAA events that some people park on & near Richmond Road near the Fairview Strand End. You might get some parking on some of the side streets off Richmod Road possibly a bit further up outside Tolka Park. Bit of a gamble if will get something or not.
Richmond Avenue has some "pay and display" parking as well but don't park in the apartment block there or you'll get clamped.

If you're driving in, there is parking on many of the side roads around Drumcondra. I usually park down the road along the side of Tesco, just don't block anyone's front gate. Make sure to pay the disc fee if it applies, the traffic wardens have a nasty habit of targeting cars when big matches are on. Lots of northern GAA fans have been clamped in the past when attending big championship matches. I've never been there for the rugby but I'm sure they're planning to do the same.
Also, if there's a local kid/older skanger hanging around offering to mind your car, or directing you into parking spots, give them a euro or two. Better that than coming back to flat tyres/broken windows! :D

On a related note: what's a good pub to visit afterwards to catch the England-Wales game? (It being De Nort Side and all, I can't envision too many rugby friendly pubs)

i reckon quinns would be ok and Fagans and Big Tree. I'd say they get dodgier after that.

A walk from Connolly is best. 15-20 min.

As for drinks after, Jury's across the road is actually a decent spot.

I watch the Munster Heinken matches in Gaffneys at Fairview Strand. Real old mans pub but nice place. A bit on the small side. If you keep going in that direction you'll hit the Clontarf pubs which should also be showing it but they may be a bit too far out for ya.

Since it's on a Sat afternoon, you'll be competing with the Premiership for viewing rights with most of the pubs in that area but I guess if enough rugby heads want to watch a match, they'll put it on.

Smyths in Fairview has loads of TVs as well

Depending on where you're starting from, there are loads of public transport options so you can ditch the car, get the Dart or bus and then get trashed at or outside the ground without having to worry about penalty points.

    Just a thought.

For those of us D4's who are just managing to tolerate the north side squalour for as long as it takes to get our new gaff in order :D there is the No 13 from Merrion Square. Takes you straight to Dorset St/Drumcondra Rd. Short walk from there.
