    Carey 'attacked girlfriend in Miami'

Former AFL great Wayne Carey allegedly smashed a wine glass in his girlfriend's face before getting into a fight with two policemen, according to Miami authorities who say the star is facing up to 15 years in an American jail.

Carey, who was subdued with capsicum spray and arrested for allegedly assaulting police in Melbourne over the weekend, is facing felony charges in Florida over the incident, which occurred in November.

The Nine Network announced this morning it will not be renewing Carey's contract to work for the broadcaster.

    Carey sacked by Nine
Carey, whose contract expired at the end of last season, appeared on the AFL version of The Footy Show among other football commitments.

Carey's girlfriend Kate Neilson told police the former football great turned commentator had smashed a wine glass on her face in an incident last October, cutting her mouth and neck.

Police were called to the five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel about midnight on the day, and found Carey asleep in his room.

Official police reports say that when they woke him he appeared drunk and lashed out, kicking one officer in the mouth and elbowing another in the face.

He was taken to Dade County jail where he was charged with assaulting a public servant, resisting an officer with violence, and aggravated battery.

He is due to face the Miami-Dade County Court on February 15.

If convicted of third degree felony charges in Florida, cumulative penalties could run up to 15 years in jail according to police.

Carey, who played 271 AFL games with the Kangaroos and Adelaide Crows, was arrested on the weekend for allegedly assaulting police during a domestic dispute at his home in Port Melbourne.

He had to be subdued by capsicum spray before being handcuffed and taken to the St Kilda Road police station.

Police said after he was interviewed a brief of evidence was being prepared.

Carey had called police to say he wanted a woman removed from his apartment.

Comment was being sought from Carey.

Everything he ever did on the pitch has been completely thrown out the window by his antics outside the game. From sleeping with his best mate/vice captain's wife to this the man has lost it completely.

yeah, a great player, but seems to have a love hate thing with women alright. Much like Cousins and Ablett Snr, will be remembered for all the wrong reasons

Q: Whats the difference between Wayne Carey and Skippy?

A: Skippy can sleep with whoever he likes, and still be a kangaroo.

A man, on his way home from work was stuck in traffic which was
much worse than usual. Noticing a policeman walking among the stalled cars,
he asked, "Officer, what's the holdup?"

The policeman says: "Wayne Carey is so depressed about being
caught cheating that he's stopped his car and is threatening to douse
himself in petrol and set himself on fire. He says his family hates him,
fans hate him, his team mates hate him and he now won't have the $1
million from his footy contract. I'm walking around taking up a collection for
    him."

"Oh, really?" the man says. "How much have you collected so
    far?"

"So far only 18 litres, but a lot of people are still
    siphoning."

Carey 'smashed bottle over own head'
    Monday Feb 25 20:00 AEDT

    By ninemsn staff

Further evidence has emerged of bizarre and violent behaviour from disgraced AFL star Wayne Carey — this time involving the football legend breaking a bottle over his own head in a hotel altercation.

US security guard Kyle Banks has told the Nine Network’s A Current Affair he saw Carey attacking his girlfriend Kate Neilson while working at the exclusive W Hotel in New York City in October 2006.

Banks said he saw Carey break a bottle of French champagne over his own head.

"He takes a champagne bottle off the night stand and smashes it across his own head and breaks the bottle and he has a little gash over his head," Mr Banks said.

"I don't understand why he hit himself with his own bottle, it didn't make any sense to me, but in any event he calmed down because he was semi-conscious lying on the floor."

Mr Banks was called about 2am after other guests complained of noise from Carey and former girlfriend Kate Neilson's room.

The security guard told A Current Affair that he saw Carey hitting Ms Neilson over and over again.

"He smacked her and he shook her and he smacked her again and shook her again and he smacked her again," Banks said.

"I got in between them and he took me, grabbed me by my lapel of my jacket and threw me to the floor."

After Mr Banks stood up, he told Carey he was going to call police — prompting Carey to smash the bottle over his own head.

Ms Neilson then started slapping a semi-conscious Carey to wake him up.

"She slapped him in the face like ‘Wayne wake up and said you always do this when we travel, you always do this’," Mr Banks said.

"She said ‘Don't call the police, don't call the ambulance, he's famous in Australia, we don't want things to get out.’"

Ms Neilson was escorted down to the ground floor of the hotel and given an ice pack.

Mr Banks said he didn't know who Wayne Carey was, but decided to look him up on Wikipedia after the incident.

Carey was capsicum-sprayed and arrested by Australian police on January 27 after reports of a disturbance at his Melbourne apartment.

Two days later, Miami police revealed that Carey had been arrested on October 27, 2007 after allegedly striking Neilson in face with a wine glass.
