Firstly let me apoligise if I'm posting in the wrong forumn. I'm new here and I dont really know my way around....

A couple of years ago I had a small short wave reciever. At that time I used to be able to pick out the BBC world service on about 5.12MHz (not entirelly sure if that was the frequency) at night... Now I cant find it at all :(..
Is it still on Short wave? Has it moved frequency or band? Apart from satillite is there another frequency that I can pick it up on? And lastly is there another unbiased world news service on SW or LW or possibly MW if I cant get BBC WS?

Anyway I was wondering if any of ye blokes could help me with my problem.

    Cheers, Landyman

It's also on almost every satellite.

Like you, I went looking for this afer a few years absence. BBC WS don't bother broadcasting to Western Europe anymore (Can't blame them).
As Watty said, anyone who wants it can get it with perfect quality off a satellite....or streamed over the net.
Their site also has them listed on the various cable systems here but from your location description, I think maybe you are in the countryside.

Not easy to get on SW these days on simple equipment. Your best bet is the 198 kHz LW but only if you listen in the wee small hours. Also on BBC FM transmitters at that time which I can get in Dundalk but I think you're in Kildare? You won't get the 648 MW as that transmitter is directional towards the Continent.

A decent satellite system is 1/2 the price of a decent Shortwave radio. The cheap ones are only any use for MW/vHF and usless for SW.

No more BBC on shortwave to Europe.

ahh it was only for handiness sake, I had a small portable SW radio and a large 80's panasonic one which had short wave (and while talking bout radios, that panasonic radio was the BEST one for picking up stations! Picked up clare fm and phontom 105.2 in westren kildare, plus loads of SW, LW and medium wave aswell, seems to me that they don't make them like the used to) Anyway I have broadband on the way so I can listen to it over that, so problem solved :)
