    Hey all

I hope this is the right forum, if it isnt Mod feel free to move it...

I'm building a house at the minute and I am very interested in installing some sort of sound system in it where i can hopefully dock my ipod and play music through ceiling speakers around the house.

Problem is that neither myself or my electrician know exactly how this can be done. I'd be really greatful if someone could explain to me what i need or where i could buy such a system........

    Thanks

If you've a pc or even better - a mac - on which you've itunes installed (if you've an ipod - you have it any way) you can buy an iporter express - a wireless receiver that plugs into the back of your sound system (aux input) or surround system of your TV. It remotely send the music to the device.
Thing is you can't control whats being played from another room. Or I can't tap into the iporter AND my internet at the same time - but great fun.

I'm not sure where this should go, maybe one of the HE forums. I'll move in a sec.

Ardara, does the iporter send music from the pc/mac to the stereo, think they are hanider options.

    All I can think of is;
    • Buy a docking station and connect this through aux/audio out ports to speaker system.
    • Buy a 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack lead. This plugs into the ipod where the head phones go, and connects with a stereo system/TV etc. Most new stereoswill have a 3.5mm audio input. This way connects the ipos to a stereo without buying a docking station, will also work in car stereos.
    • Buy an FM mod, this connects to head phone slot and send music to any device that can pick up radio stations, so stereo, tv, car stereo. Advantage here is that it allows you to carry the ipod around the house whist listening to it over the speakers, changing songs etc

Not sure if this stould go to the Hi-Fi forum, or the speaker forum.
Suppose it depends if you need help soring out how to dock the ipod, or setting up speakers. As the docking is easier, I'll move to speakers, if you are not looking for help with that it can be moved again I suppose

Just looking into the system you describe for our new build. I've sent our plans to some home automation companies to quote. you can store upto 10,ooo tracks on a central system & we're planning on putting speakers in all living areas & bathrooms there is also an option of wiring it to your main pc for track selection. do it now it now don't regret not doing it as the purpose machines on the market that send the music wirelessly are not in the same league as the sound quality you'll get from automation so i was advised from a sales rep from a well known chain that has an extremely loud & annoying owner,:p barbie anyone??!!:D:D:D

    Hi

I dont own one but looked closely at them....Consider a SONOS system www.sonos.com .Designed for what you are trying to achieve. Would allow you to leverage any seperates/ systems that you already have.

Keep a back up of your ipod on an attached NAS drive on the SONOS network OR attach it directly to the appropriate SONOs unit

I read/hear that it has the most reliable wireless connectivity.

Distributed by SONY. Also by Instacom (Dublin at least) at least.

    Spin
