Book a room in the 'D Hotel' - its part of the new scotch hall shopping center in drogheda beside the boyne - its literally a 2 minute walk to the casino. As far as the train station goes, its about a 10 minute from the D hotel....

www.scholarshotel.com is a nice spot and only around the corner from the casino, they do a top notch breakie in the morning (which i can vouch for from early morning casino finishes!!)

I Doubt you will get a room in scholars.

Westcourt is cheaper than the D but not as nice. Plenty of B&B's. Check www.drogheda.ie for links to all hotels & guesthouses in the area.

Hopefully the Maitre D has changed, I have been there 3 times now, never again, the guy is in your face all the time. Some people might like that sort of thing, but I prefer to be left to enjoy my food.

I would say go for the D Hotel, its no distance from train station. Its nice and minimal, good food etc. Its off Marsh Rd, you walk down towards the town, then cross road to 'Poorhouse Lane' its first left after Esso (its shown as dead end on Google Maps), You then turn right, walk under the bridge and take a left, your at Hotel.

    Never mind a train

Go to parnell street - there is a regular bus going ATLEAST on the hour to dundalk via drogheda. Its matthews buses. It leaves from outside paddy powers, and it has a timetable on the bus stop if any doubt. 10euro for a return, and it drops you outside mc donalds in drogheda, and its very comfortable.

Just one tip regards food, there is a pub/restaurant just outside drogheda - (you go over the bridge, and head for monasterboice (ie dont take the motorway, take the old road) its only 5/10 minutes drive from drogheda. Its called Donegans. The steaks there are unbelievable. Sorta place you'd travel ages for, so i higly recommend it.
