I have been a heavy drinker for the past 5-6 years, basically when the weekend comes I binge on beer and sometimes wine.I dont touch heavy drinks though.

I have must recently gotten a pain on the left hand side of my body below the ribs that sometimes spreads to the back ,its a very dull pain and is spread out.Its never very severe and i generally feel fine , no other symtoms

I had bad gastro reflux during xmas and im worried I have pancreatitis, ulcers, cancer or something of that ilk.

It feels like there is trapped gas there that cant escape because I can hear stomach growling and gas sounds in the area, im afraid to go to the docter as Im afraid he will give me grave news

    Hi juanveron45,

Firstly, nobody on here is going to give you medical advice. We don't know enough about you, and can't examine you, so no-one can say what's wrong with you.

However, I will say this. Every single solitary day GPs have people coming into them afraid they have serious or terminal illness. It happens all the time. In the vast vast majority of cases, a GP can put your mind at ease there and then. If not, they will usually put your mind at rest after a few tests.

I don't know if you have anything wrong with you. But I do know you must be feeling pretty miserable worrying about this.

Imagine how much better you'd feel if a doc examined you, and put your mind at ease.

I say this because I've been in your shoes when I was in med school.

I went to the doc in an awful state, convinced I had a tumour. But he examined me, and found the (non serious) cause there and then. the relief was immense. There are people all over the country who spend literally months and months worrying about serious illness before going to their doc.

Like I said, most of them get the all clear there and then.

So, go and see your GP. I know it's tough. But let us know how you get on.

I'll leave the thread open in case anyone else wants to give you some more encouragement. But, I don't want anyone offering opinions on what they think the OP is suffering from.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

mate i had a problem before where I knew I had to get a circumscision but was too embarrased to go. After worrying about it for about five years I eventually went and it was over in five minutes. Seriously, just make the appointment and go. The relief is so worth it.

OT, tallaght, I was wondering, do med students get really worried when they start studying? I'd imagine hearing about all the stuff that can go wrong must really freak people out...
