Light fitting blowing new bulbs after 1 or 2 days

This ids from a neighbour, who has a light fitting which has started blowing bulbs as decribed below:

The light fitting is extendable from the ceiling with a plastic-covered coiled wire.
As well as an upper shade, the bulb is partially enclosed underneath by a screw-up glass shade. ( the label says max 75 watts )
The original bulb (screw-in) gave up the ghost last week after about fifteen years service.
We replaced it with a 60w reflecting spot.
    The following day it blew.
We replaced it with an identical one, and it lasted two days.

Any input would be welcomed please before they call a sparks.
    Thanks

You may have a bad batch of bulbs.
    Try another brand.

Also, was the bulb removed similar to the one which was installed in terms of form?

The original one got recycled before the first of the new ones blew, so it is not available for comparison.

chances are its the new bulbs. if the light fitting was not (hit or interfered with) there is no reason to believe its faulty.also buy your bulbs in an electrical shop not a hardware store. reason. more than likely he will know if the bulbs are suitable or not. And bring one of the blown bulbs with you.
