    Hi All,

I'm a Noob to photography but I'm really getting into it.

My question is this. I have a friend coming over from Spain who is really into photography.

Can anyone recommend any good locations to bring him to get some quality shots? I'm based in Dublin but will be able to drive a bit. He's only coming for a weekend so it needs to be in and around Dublin-ish.

As far as I know he want's to see Glendalough so we'll be heading as far as Wicklow.

He also like taking seascapes so I'm going to get him a day pass for the DART.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!

Well, here goes - Dun Laoghaire, Killiney, Dalkey, Bray (all good for landscape and seascape).

City Centre - Christchurch, Dublin Castle, Botanic Gardens, Garden of Rememberance, Phoenix Park, Dublin Zoo.

Dublin at night - Liffey at night, Four Courts, Customs House, Christchurch

Just a few options for you to think about.

Glendalough definitely worth a visit, if you've time for a bit of a walk then Turlough Hill (the upper road as you come into glendalough) can be good too. Sally/Wicklow Gap, Powerscourt waterfall, Lough Dan (near Roundwood). As Paul said Dalkey (Bulloch Harbour), and Bray (Bray Head, the Beach)

If you can drive I would also recommend driving up along the north coast as far as the Mourne Mountains. The scenery is spectacular and there are some lovely places to take photographs.

I'd be trying to avoid that one.

Drive through Wicklow Mountains, from Tallaght to Sally Gap. Wonderful landscapes there.
Irish Museum of Modern Art and Collins Barracks (the viking long-ship) are worth to visit too.

Dont forget that Newgrange predates the Pyramids by 500 years and Stonehenge by 1000 years, such history on our doorstep... :)

and something like one third of the known neolithic art is in the Knowth Area iirc.

If you are planning on going to any of the museums check on their websites which ones allow you to take photographs in them.I know Kilmainham jail is a yes for taking pics in (cost 2e in for students and that includes a tour as well)
If you are heading to Glendalough the Pollanessa River is quite nice (you can walk to the top of the water fall and then down)
Also was at the Bots there last weekend and there really weren't many flowers in bloom. There were however some nice pics to take of the light coming in through the trees The first 9 pics are ones that were taken last week Botanic Gardens
Id suggest as well that some of the places in Dublin take a wander to them yourself and see if it is worth your while heading to them

    Galway. :D

The inner city isn't bad if decaying urban architecture is your thing.

Great views from the Cliff walk in Howth ...

Also, if the weather holds up, it's worth doing The Spinc in Glendalough, takes about two-and-a-half hours pushing it, gives amazing views out over the lakes.

I'm not sure of the Casino at Marino is still shootable, but it's an incredible place. Actually, it looks as if it's closed in January.

The Poolbeg Lighthouse is always a big hit with the girls so long as they're not in their Manolo Blahniks:

Christchurch and Trinity are always worth a blast:

and pretty much anywhere in Georgian Dublin:

yeah, but there's not much to photograph there.

Uhem, well if you take the trip to Knowth from Bru na Boinne, there are a lot of stone carvings to photograph and the front of Newgrange is worth a look.

Newgrange is always kind of busy but if you get in there on your own, an AP of the interior might be worth a look. I did this at a passage grave in Brittany:

    which was shot without flash.

anyway the point is there is stuff to photograph up there although it may not be feasible to do it.

I recommend you check out Heritage Ireland's website. It will give you a list of places and most of them tell you if photography is allowed
