PS3 on Irish Broadband

Has anybody here got their PS3 working with the breeze service on irish broadband. I have it plugged directly into the breeze box with no router in the way. I can get online but not log into the playstation network. Rang IB and they said ring sony:eek:

They would give NTL a run for their money on customer service.:mad:

Ports blocked? If you do internet test on PS3, what info does it come back with?
    NAT type, UPNP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭cgarrad

The ports cant be blocked coz its directly connected to the breeze unit and that does not have any firewall (i think) cant find nat type coz playstation network times out and the test fails.

Has anybody actually got one working, then at least I know its my fault :o

I had it working when I was connected to 3 rock mountain... now I am connected to rochestown ave and it just drops connection all the time. They are just saying they can't fix it so my ps3 is redundant... I can't play online poker either or upload successfully to ftp servers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭cgarrad

I ended up leaving them and moving to NTL 6mb for €8 less a month and it will be upgraded to 12mb in the next 3 months. They support PS3 as well. IB have a great product shame about the lack of foresight as PS3 will win the war and they will have a lot of pissed customers.

Thinking of doing the same today...

Pity noone else offers a symetrical service for a reasonable price.

If you look at my thread further down on this forum im in exactly the same boat as you.
I have irish broadband with a netgear router and i can go online on the ps3 but can't get signed in on my Playstation Network or when i do it signs me out within a few mins. I also rang IBB twice and i was also told to ring Sony. They really don't have a clue tbh. Think i will have to change ISP's as well because it isn't good enough. Which is the best ISP for the PS3 anyway? I guess im restricted to what i can get as well living in Donegal! :D

I've got breeze aswell, when i originally got connected it kept loggin out at random times. I ended up ringing IBB about it anyway and initially they couldn't do much - they pressed a few buttons to see if it got better - but no luck. About a week later it all just started working and i havn't had a glitch since. The Breeze connection is excellent for me now.

As far as I recall, at the time there was some discussion about if it was actually IBB or Level3 (or whoever IBB use) that was causing problems. It looked like a lot of PS3 udp packets were being dropped after leaving IBB.

Anyway - I guess my problem was different than yours- i could logon - but just got disconnected a lot. I guess you just arn't setting it up right - no matter what ISP you are using you should be able to logon! I guess if you post some more info / what the ps3 says when u tell it to test your internet connection I might be able to help ya!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,260 ✭✭✭harpstilidie

When i test the connection it says:

    Obtain IP address- succeeded
    Internet connection- succeeded
    Playstation Network- Failed

Sometimes i do get signed in (rarely) but it signs me out again within a few minutes. Im using a router and an ethernet cable coming from it to the ps3. It worked fine but up until recently it hasn't.

Sounds like it's a similar prob to what I used to have.

Have you tried setting it up as Ps3->Breeze directly without using any router? That way you can identify if the prob is at your end or with IBB? - make sure you enter the correct manual network settings when doing it this way....check that the browser works as well just to be sure it's a psn only problem

Yeah thats what i done before i got the router but i can't remember how i did it. That means i have to change the ip address on the ps3 doesn't it?

yep - plug the ethernet cable into the ps3, and then give the ps3 the correct ipaddress and gateway and that.....if you dont have them numbers written down, log into your router and copy them from there.

When you do that you can be sure if it's IBB or your router. There is a lot of misleading discussion about the ps3 and network issues around the web - when the ps3 first came out it had quite a few wireless "issues", which have since been fixed with the firmware updates, i remember i spent ages toying about with router settings thinking it was a problem at my end. I think at the moment most routers have no issues unless you have changed their default settings to block the ps3 - so just note the dates on any websites discussing the ps3 connectivity issues, if they are more than a few months old ignore them!

Thanks, just tried it there and it was the same old story. Worked sometimes and didn't work others. Must be IBB's fault.

It is IBB's fault... on my last call to them they have decided that they cannot fix it... tough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭prodigal_son

Its shocking they wont fix it, im sure you must be able to take them to court to get your money back for things.

My brother is on them and bought new routers and everything trying to fix the problem, and all along they have probably just known "yeah it wont ever work buddy" but kept hush about it in the hopes you dont take your custom elsewhere..

    Pretty bad imo.

Im getting this with Eircom aswell lads, I dunno is it only at my end or is it sony to blame?!?!

If you can see your friendlist you are on the PSN, try going into the store, sounds to me like the check is failing but you are getting on anyway.

haha yeah the store works aswell wtf is up with that. What would the reason be that its failing then says at bottom my sign in id or password is incorrect but it signs me out just before i do the internet test. Must be sony?

    Cheers for reply anyways :)

Its saying your password or user name are incorrect? Try to log into the following link with your username and password.

    https://store.playstation.com/login.gvm

If it doesnt work, go through the process of "forgotten password", there was a security breach on the PSN that lead to some peoples passwords getting changed. Hopefully this isnt the case, but you should look into it.

Luckily enough I can sign into that no bother so the problem musn't be so serious its just annoying how its saying failed for the playstation network now I noticed I can't accept friend requests though:(

Myself and some college mates have Irish Broadband and we have a PS3 and a 360 hooked up to it since September last year and have no problems. Our connection type is wireless. Sometimes we lose connection, but we are pretty sure that's our router as it's second hand and has a e5 sticker underneath it(!!).

Im afraid I can't give ya any info on our set-up or anything cause im not in the house atm.

My 360 works fine too... its just the ps3, i put it on another connection and its fine and another ps3 on my connection can't connect either...

IBB told me yesterday that they just don't support PS3's on their network. If it works fair enough but they do not guarantee that it should be able to work on their connection. Seems a bit odd... its like saying we'll supply you with internet access but we are not going to guarantee you can access it.

Irish Broadband is absolutely crap tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,260 ✭✭✭harpstilidie

Mines is really weird these days. I'll get on sometimes and not other times. Well at least its better than not getting on at all or only getting on for a few mins like it was over the last couple of months. Advice for people, stay well clear of IBB for your ps3 anyway!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27 Tuffinho_LFC

Well on the internet connection test first two pass but playstation network fails this is wiwth eircom. Yet I can still play online and sing into my psn account.

hi im with irish broadband breeze connection.i get the same problems as u. sometimes i can sign in on the ps3 but it disconnects after a few mins.is there any solution to this yet ?

    Obtain IP address- succeeded
    Internet connection- succeeded
Playstation Network- Failed etc etc etc!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 154 ✭✭half_life_man

justing 16 i'm the exact same! I'm always failing on the psnetwork. At first i thought it was my router but now i'm thinking its just irish broadband being ****ty! they have really gone downhill with their connection speed aswell so i'm goin to change provider.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

Yeah just change provider. Connection dropping is quite common with it, as will be verified by any of the poker players on the poker forum. As I said above, it's a shíte service so just switch and get something reliable.

I moved to NTL 12mb for €40 and the ps3 worked flawlessly.

IB have a great product but PS3 WILL NOT WORK.

It took a lot for me to lift the phone to NTL?UPC but the service is animal, downloading at 1400kb/s :D

Sorry to revive but exact same issues and now it will not let me sign into PSN at all! And if it does it goes after a max of 5mins.

I have opened all necessary ports and then even put it in DMZ too. My internet works fine and I'm getting 2.82down and 2.58up out of a 3mbps connection. I only ever used to have lagg issues when on wireless but now I have a cat5 ethernet cable running to it but still it says 'connection to psn has timed out".

Is there just a major incompatibility with ps3 and IBB?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭311

Sony's network for the ps3 is linked with their regular sony.com ,maybe it has something to do with the way both combine and the hardware that breeze uses.

I once had trouble logging onto PSN on my ps3 ,when I tried to log onto sony.com on my pc ,I couldn't.
My guess is the problem is that sony doesn't want anyone online that they have no control over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭su_dios

Sounds strange. Why wouldn't sony have control over IBB? I have no problems opening sony.com

I'm not a techie ,but sony block people by their I.P address when they abuse the network. Maybe the way breeze gives out I.P address isn't suited to sonys network.

Another thing is the way that you can long on for a few minutes ,before being dropped. Suggests that sony has a test they do on the connection.

You could try for some advice here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=259

It may well be just a lousy ping thats causing the disconnection.

I've done absolutely everything to get the connection working but I think you're right its a bad ping. I had problems with the pings before on my connection but they just come out and move it a bit and say its ok.

I've been having issues with my PS3 and breeze but it's working perfect today since I upgraded to firmware version 2.70. Has anyone else that's upgraded noticed any difference? Hopefully Sony fixed the problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

I'm now having the same problem. Tried everything and I keep getting disconnected from the PSN. Tried it wired and wireless through my Netgear router without success. Have any of you had any joy with Irish Broadband and the PS3...? I dont have a lot of options for broadband where I am in Louth. I dont have a phone line as the max speeds available are 1mb with one...
I bought the PS3 really for the online gaming and this is going to p*ss me off big time if i cant get it working properly..!

Here's what they won't tell you. I know someone who used to work in IBB. Problems with PSN all of the time.

Constant disconnects after 5 minutes. Seems to actually be Sony's network though and not IBB's. They just don't seem to like static IP addresses with no rDNS. That set rDNS was set up on some accounts to see if that worked and it did... for 2 days.

Know someone who got IBB Breeze installed recently too and had been using it for a few months before getting a PS3... everything worked fine for about a week and then constant disconnects. Still happens too.

All I can say is... god bless that Eircom WEP Keygen... not that I condone the use of such things ;-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

So If I read that correctly then my options with IBB are non existant...! Great...! Problem is I dont have many options. Its IBB (2mb up and down), Net1 with too many problems to list aparently, Digiweb or Eircom (which means getting a phone line..! Dammitttttt... You think its worth calling IBB to see if anythings changed...?

This is a widely known problem.

    1. Make sure your media server is turned off. This works about 35% of the time.
    2. Contact Sony
    3. Sit and wait

This happened to me. I turned off my media server and it worked again for about two weeks before failing. Then one day it decided to work again :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

I know how widely reported it is. I've googled until my eyes where sore  I tried turning off the media server as well as loads of other stuff but its still happening. Last night I got about an hour of crash free COD4... :D:D It was some of the best gaming I have ever played..! I am waiting on a reply from Irish Broadband and will then contact Sony.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi all

Just to let you know that all is well now with Irish Broadband. They suggested that I change my DNS and use
OpenDNS. Here is the site that provides the service. Delighted its now working..! :D:D

Yeah that's a common lie that they use. I already use OpenDNS on my router and it does nothing for me (on IBB also). As I said... Eircom WEP keygen ftw...
