Speaker query

I have been offered some speakers. At the moment I am running 2 x 350W into 2 400W 8ohm speakers. If I get these ones would it stop it clipping so much? The person says the speakers are 1000W but not sure how much each one is or the ohms. TIA

P.S. I have posted this in the Dance & Electronic & DJing forum, mods feel free to move/merge/delete

Any details on the amplifier ? Make/model ? Power rating - output impedance ?
The speakers, make model, ratings ?

Clipping is caused when you drive the output stages (transistors usually) into the supply rails - no good for either the speakers or the amp. Maybe you need a more powerful amp that you can run hard without clipping ?

Adding more speakers will put more strain on the amplifier. They'll more than likely be in parallel with the existing ones so assuming they're 8 ohms you will then be driving the amp into 4 ohm loads. Can it take it ?

Oh, one more thing - websites that blast out music when you open them . . . not cool anymore !! Yours just scared the sh1t outta my cats !! ;)

I have a pair of these http://www.behringer.com/B1520-PRO/index.cfm?lang=engand a Kool sound TX-750 750W amp. (can't find details online but spec is 2x750W maximum, 2x500WRMS 4Ohm, 2x350WRMS 8Ohm, 1x1400WRMS 8Ohm Bridged) The speakers I been offered are 1000W not sure about model/ratings. But the guy offering them got them from a mate who said they are 1000W.

Not sure if that is each or total RMS. The amp I been offered with it I believe is a Carlsboro 150W, again not much details just this: coalsbro marlin 6/150/111 and six channels, so I take that to be 6ch, 150W and dunno the last number! LOL!

The guy only asking 100Euros would it be worth it if only for the speakers? Might be a bit big in cab size though, apparently they are like cerwin vegas!

Hmmm...up to you whether you wanna take his word for fact. It's not hard to find the specs of gear online nowadays, just get the speaker name and model number off your seller.

My only advice is to tread very carefully, you could end up going from the frying pan into the fire. This is why I can never understand why people don't just pay the extra few quid now for the right gear and save themselves a life of torture.

FWIW I'm presently using Crown XTi and iTech amps, both have built in Clip Limiters so when they are on rock band duty I just set a brick wall limiter because at the end of the day I don't fancy buying new speakers every month.

btw: I agree about yer site! Loud noises makes baby jesus weep :D

Personally I have a major problem with anything they make so those speakers wouldn't impress me at all. 2 sets of powered monitor speakers - one after the other - burned the bass cones without any input !! A Berhinger sound processor I use on radio regularly "forgets" its settings and their build quality leaves a lot to be desired.

In my opinion those speakers are not suitable for high powered bass rich music of the type I imagine you're playing. They're PA speakers, no more than that. The clipping you hear is probably the bass driver being driven to it's full excursion and there is no way those cabinets could reproduce the sort of frequencies that club music generate. The amplifier sounds (sic) reasonable enough for small to medium venues but the weak link is surely those speakers.

As for what you're being offered - 100 quid for 1000W speakers !?
My motto: You get what you pay for !!

Get yourself a good quality compressor/limiter which should give you a perceived louder sound from the amp and get a pair of subs with crossovers.

I think you know yourself that what you've been offered isn't right otherwise you wouldn't be on here asking.

    My 2c . . .
