I have written before about not being able to download email. Now as a test I signed up to a newsletter in an eircom email account but the email came to a different account, to the email address that is the default one. All password are correct

Yes I have several eircom accounts and none will dl into windows live mail consistently. Some will some won't.Some spam some not. Eircom told me change to mail1.eircom rather than mail2. Did - no change. I turned off email scanning in norton 360 too, no help. I can ping the Eircom site and telnet it but mail won't download consistently

So you are downloading mail via POP in Outlook express then.

A common problem with eircom mail i've found is that some emails with attachments (spams/viruses perhaps) cause the mail client to hang on a message and give up after timing out. Since the request has not being completed - outlook doesn't get a chance to send the mail server list of downloaded messages and the whole process simply starts again next time you go to download mail.

To overcome this problem, log into the webmail and delete anything un important. And then attempt to download the important ones.

This is the problem i've picked from your post anyways.

    Hope it helps.

They have a good enough support site: http://support.eircom.net/

I've only ever used a single account from them and had no trouble with it.

If you have a gmail account you could consider fetching all the mail from there and managing through gmail.

Been years since I had the displeasure of using Eircomnet mail but if it's the same as before the you can't pop3 email from your account if you have first checked your mail via webmail.

Checking via webmail silently moves your messages into a different folder on eircomnets mail servers which POP3 clients can't access (easily).

There is a way around it, let me see if I can dig it up.

Well windows live mail on this pc amnd OE on the other but the other is rarely on. It started when I got the new PC. Would it be because 2 PC's are configured to the same accounts

Not that, I delete every time I log in and have to log in regularly now because I do not want to miss email

    Hope it helps.
    Thanks

If one PC downloads the emails first, then by default you won't get them on the second PC as they are deleted from the server.

There is an option in Outlook/Windows Mail however to leave a copy on the server. I amnt sure if this is your problem or not.

I know that but some will not download on either. Before all would dowmload spam and everything and i would delete spam

Actually more than likely that isn't your problem as you say you rarely have the old PC on.

What exactly is happening when you go send/receive on windows mail?

Thanks, I know that, prefer to just let it all download save having to log into webmail but it won't

Some downloads sometimes some won't, no pattern. No Spam downloads on the new pc so thought the spam filter in Windows live Mail might too high but it is off. I miss important mail if i don't log to webmail. Prefer all to download, spam and all,and just delete spam

Might be worth your while having a look at Mailwasher Pro. It allows you to check multiple accounts (Pay version) at the server but from your machine, without having to go to Webmail.

Lets you see everything that's waiting for you on all the servers you have accounts on, then you you decide what to dump before you do a Send/Receive in Outlook Express.

Never thought I would be glad of spam but my email is working again. don't care about junk easier to delete than logging in to each one. I deleted and then reconnected the 2 accounts that were causing trouble. Tried before didn't work but worked this time
