Anybody drink in this place of late? Whats the place like?

Does it have a good rep etc?

It was recommended for a function soon so just wanted to make sure it got the thumbs up from someone who knows the place.

    Cheers

EDIT - The name is 'Weirs' not The Weir, sorry!

It's a nice enough pub. Food is very good and the service is fine.

I was at a 21st there up in the function room, great size, great food and drink, very friendly staff and apparently it was very cheap to rent out! Highly recommended!

The owner Tony Weir has been in the pub game for a long time and has a very good rep.
Staff are friendly, good food, good beer, can be a bit on the quiet side during the week. Decent crowd, no messers!

Tony Weir sold the pub in 2006, has been under new management since then. He now has the King's Inn in Dalkey, across from the Queens.

John Colton, The head chef is still in Weir's - Dun Laoghaire, hence the good food, especially the carvery.

I will say i dont drink in it much but as far as their food goes it's second to none. Sunday carvery is top quality. Hmmmm roast beef

    the food is poor.

its pubgrub though so its the same crap as always, i was there last sunday for lunch -

to start, the saltiest soup i have ever had in my life bar none.

main course, big think ignorant slabs of meat (not bad), 2 kinds of tastless potato, loads and loads of veg which had all been boiled for at least 2 hours and had consistancy of pond slime with little or no flavour.

dessert, the most disgusting cheese cake of my life...there was something seriously wrong with it, i think they used blue cheese of something.

meh its not quality food (the weekday carvery) but plenty of quantity and is just what the doctor ordered.

No idea about their function room thought. Never been in it or ever drunk in there really bar a quick 1 pint before moving elsewhere.
