Quickset on XPS 1330/Win XP problem

    Hi all,

I rebuilt my new XPS 1330 recently following instructions from this site. They refer to the following file for a Quickset that will work with the 1330 on XP:

    http://ftp.us.dell.com/app/R165094.EXE

However, when I download, install and run that it keeps crashing. All of the other drivers etc are in and working. It's just Quickset that is proving the problem and I'd like to have it. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

    Anthony

    1. R151309.EXE:
XP verson of Dell QuickSet from other Dell XP models failed to be installed on M1330
The installation program just refuses to be installed onto M1330.
I tried the M1330's Vista QuickSet but the installation refuses to be installed on M1330 XP OS.
Without this, pressing the function keys like brightness, volume up/down, play/stop will not
have any visual indication/feedback on XP but they are still working.
Also the nice utility Wi-Fi Catcher(TM) Network Locator is missing.
Ya may be out of luck if dell dont support using xp with this laptop aswell...

It worked on mine with no problems, try download the file again. It's only a self-extracting exe, does it extract correctly?

AFAIK Dell don't officially support XP on it. That doesn't bother me if I can find work arounds.

Just re-downloaded and ran the file. Same issue. Installation goes fine and then BAM, "Has encountered a problem and needs to close". *shakes fist at Quickset*

Try downloading the QuickSet edition from pre your XPS models and see if theres any joy (XP Drivers of course), your prob out of luck, if dell updated QuickSet for this particular laptops new features the old drivers prob wont work, I don't agree with Dell not supplying XP drivers for new Vista systems but at the same time Vista isn't all as bad as people make it out to be. Sure SP1 should resolve the main vista issiues (Slow copying/moving speeds and issiues with network speeds if media playing) so there may not really be much reason downgrading unless a critical piece of software you have isn't vista ready (Most products have updates out by now...)

Did you get everything else working ok on the 1330? The biometric reader etc.

I've gone back to XP on my main machine. I didn't have too many problems but slow file transfers and unreliable folder/file merges/moving were show stoppers for me.

These annoyances are on the to do list for SP1, actually there prob already done, wish Microsoft would just hurry up and release it

Just a quick update, I re-formatted it last night and installed Quickset again and it seems to be working grand. I've no idea why it didn't before but I'm glad I have it sorted.

Corrupt install the first time would be my guess, it worked off the bat for me. You were just unlucky. That version of quickset is fine on xp so there is no problem there.

That's the thing though, I should have been able to uninstall and try again but every time was the same result.

QuickSet requires 2 apps installed, Dell Software Utilities and the actual QuickSet app, one or the other could have corrupted ;) Glad ya got it working

Any chance you could post a list of the XP driver downloads. Save searching for them?
