Lens/collar help needed..

Hey all,

I need some assistance or suggestions with this please...

I have a Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 APO EX HSM (Canon fit) but I don't have a tripod collar for it and could do with one so I can use it on my tripod (obviously ).

There are problems though (of course!)! This is the older, discontinued version of the lens (I think it first hit the market in 2003 but I'm not 100% sure on that)


Just to emphasise, since there are about 4 versions of this lens...

This lens HAS got 'APO', 'EX' and 'HSM' printed on it - nothing else along those lines!

- it is NOT 'DG'
- it is NOT 'MACRO'
This does focus internally but does NOT have the letters 'IF' printed anywhere on the lens (if that makes any difference!?)

You'll see it in the attached pic (The most obvious visual difference with this and the newer versions is the grip)


So here are the questions..

Anyone selling a suitable collar? Wouldn't have to be genuine...the less money, the better (have you seen the price of genuine collars!!!?)

or

Has anyone here got this lens with the collar?

If yes, have you any idea what the part or model number of the tripod collar is?
It looks like a TS-21 but I can't verify that - no site I've seen gives the diameter of those. The TS-21 definitely fits the current version of the lens but I'm not too sure if it suits mine!?
There is very little about this specific lens on the internet.
There is NOTHING, detail-wise, about the required collar, that I could find, after days of searching!


I haven't even been able to find out for definite what diameter of collar I need!

I don't have a calipers so to get the diameter of the lens (where the collar goes), I measured the circumference and divided that by PI - seems to be 72-73mm but then I don't know if a millemeter or two needs to be left for padding or rubbery grip on the collar?
All of the collars on Ebay are for Canon lenses and are around the 66mm diameter mark so they're no good! I'm not having much luck with this at all!


Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated!


(One other thing: A custom-made collar wouldn't really be an option either - from what I've seen, you'd be talking around $250 if not more which is not even close to budget)

Wild idea - contact Sigma and ask for their spare parts section and see if they have one.

I know Canon have a spare parts section/outlet store where you can buy parts as needed.

As I mentioned though - the lens is discontinued. As far as "the internet" tells me, Sigma dont sell or support the lens any more.

Even if they did, they would charge a fortune so I was hoping some nice person here could sell me one cheap or tell me where to get a spurious one or at the very least, if someone had one, measure the diameter for me.

I don't know where you're based, but there are a few camera shops in Dublin, where the staff should be able to give you advice.

Thanks for the suggestion! I live in Leitrim and it's rare enough I'd get to Dublin but I'll definitely send them an email anyway. Cheers

Hi Stephen,

Have the lens, the collar diameter is 70/71mm
(there's a bit of play when it's off the lens barrell)

Sweet - thanks for that Minikin! Should hopefully make my search quite a bit easier and a lot less random!

I don't suppose the collar happens to have a part number on it by any chance?

Is it the TS-21 by any chance - that's the model number of the collar for the later models...

this one defn fits - is a long platform version of what you're after... the TS-41
