    Hi there,

I went to our lawyers today to talk to them about the on going problems we have here with the misuse of this forum by national associations of Shooting. It was a VERY interesting meeting and this is the outcome.

By using our platform, against our express wishes, the said associations would be not only breaching our terms of service and our express wishes but also undermining our advertising model and thus damaging our business.

As such, with prior notice (such as this thread which I'm going to mail all of them), any officer or representative of any national or regional association who posts on this forum or the sub forums herein, either explicitly or under pretense or subterfuge to promote their association either explicitly or to promote their associations standpoint by subterfuge, will be deemed to have implicitly ACCEPTED A CHARGE OF €950 euro PER POST MADE. Posts made in this manner may (and most likely WILL) be removed without refund.

How will we know? Internet IP's and times can be queried at the ISP (under court order which we have gotten before quite readily) to reveal names and addresses of those who posted from them. If you think that wont stand up in court, we've already done this twice before and successfully convicted a hacker who attacked the site some years back. You are not at ALL anonymous on the internet.

The time and cost of this investigation will be added onto the costs incurred at €100 per hour of our time. Damages will then be filed for against the association for which the officer/representative will be deemed to have acted.

If you think we arent serious, think about MCD and our on going legal fight with them.

I know you all think you are big and clever. Let me tell you, you arent. This is our world online, you visit it but we built it and we ****in' own it.

Get lost before this gets nasty.

    DeV.

    Umm.

OK, I'm seeing an announcement on all the various fora asking for information about the shooting scene, we've got the "This forum is reopening under the direct moderation of admin" post, we've got this hard-ball post. This isn't doing the shooting forum's publicity any good at all, that I can see.

For the rest of the world, and my own personal curiousity, any chance of a general "To the public at large" post, to ease our collective minds and let us know what's going on?

Can I assume that this E950 business doesn't apply to local clubs, such as someone saying to someone in UCD "Why don't you swing by the water tower and check the UCD Club?"

    NTM

For the actions of the few, many will suffer :o

The OP is very specific and easy to understand

    DeV

What about competition announcements on the "upcoming competitions" or "this weekends events" threads? Some of these events are run by national associations and could be deemed to be advertising.

The same question arises for clubs who run competitions under the auspices of their governing body(ies).

Anything that benefits the normal shooter directly (that is, events, competitions etc) are all good.

Policy announcements, and argumentative posts from officers and representatives will be charged.

If you think I'm playing hard ball just now.... you have no idea what I'm capable of doing to protect the site I have put 10 years of my life into and that I consider the most important thing I have achieved.

The people who think they can come here and "pretend" to be regular users when in fact they are simply pushing an agenda are wrong. Very VERY wrong. If they want to come here and play silly buggers with my workplace... I see no reason why I can't do the same to theirs. Turn around is fair play and all.

On the flip side, I have come to like a lot of the real shooters here and promise not to do anything that damages your sport. :)

    Thanks DeV

I had a real bad moment there :) It's funny how you realise how valuable something is, when the prospect of it going is raised.

I have to say thanks DeV!

It would have been much easier to shut the forum down. Thanks for not doing so and putting the work into it to get it back on track.

    Best,
    Preusse

Nah, I like the way the community itself operates in fact, it seems like everyone helps each other and explains stuff and is keen on new blood joining etc etc. Sparks made an impassioned plea on behalf of the good things in the shooting community too.

Anyway, nothing I like better then a good fight. :)

Hopefully all of this will just go away anyway and you can return to the purpose of this forum.... talking about shooting and the community therein.

As I've said before without this forum I would have been lost or sent up the wrong road by gun dealers as to what to buy and general info.
Now my son is getting the CZ LUX in .223 to sort out the fox problem and chickens he has (not shoot the chickens). AND last night I bought a Mossberg 88 pump action shotgun after a quick post on this forum about the shotgun. Everyone I find is helpful to a fault and quick to respond to any posts.

DeVore I know whats its like to put your heart, time and soul into something and then get a kick in the nuts by people who only abuse or cause trouble. Your doing great work and YOU get my vote everytime.

Heres my vote of thanks to Dev for keeping the site open. and to the moderators for their hard work.

I dont know what went on or who said what, but whatever organisation representatve thought it was a good idea to threaten the admins and nearly get this forum closed should reasses their priorities and their value to our sport.

I know you're misusing the word that for simplicity's sake, but the silly little twat probably feels all validated now.

Don't go getting soft, just because you've someone else in your sights :)

Quite correct Tallie, cracker-knacker would be much more accurate. I'd love to have seen his face when the police confiscated his precious machine, according to the CCIUHS he was more concerned that it had gigs of porn on it then that he had been trying to crack several company's servers...
