Going to London this weekend with girlfriend. Anyone any general tips about the place ie. how to save money on tube tickets or to book tickets in advance for attractions, anything really.

Flying into gatwick and was looking at the transfer options.Trains are very dear but the bus takes 2 and a half hours. Any suggestions?

Don't get the Gatwick Express, you'll save yourself about £10, potentially more depending on dates, times, etc. if you get the regular rains to Victoria. Big big downside is that they might take about 4 minutes longer;)

What part of the city are you staying in? As in "The City" (financial) or the west end? Do NOT get the Gatwick Express or the bus, they either rip you off in terms of money or time - get a Southern train from LGW to Victoria and you will be laughing! I think the only people who use the Gatwick Express are businesspeople who can claim the money back on their expense accounts.

It's also hard to recomend what to see - not knowing you or your GF! There are dozens of plays on in the west end, you can get cheap tickets on www.lastminute.com - often they sell tickets and dinner packages which funnily enough work out a little cheaper than the tickets on their own.

Also just have a look at time out london - that will recommend anything and everything to do in the city.

Buy an oyster card as it'll mean cheaper tube fares for both of you. Tube can be stupidly expensive, even for a day pass for zone 1 & 2. Bonus is, with an oyster card, you can save it and use the remaining credit the next time you're over, or else cash it in when you are finished using it. Also, make sure you ask at your hotel what time your nearest tube line stops running and what time the nearest station closes. Don't want to be left stranded!

Also it's been my experience that it is cheaper on the whole to withdraw money from ATM over there instead of getting it out at the airport/bureau de change over here.
