Hi all. Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Basically i'm running IE 6 and every now and then - maybe once a week - alot of explorer windows start at once. It almost seems like there's a lag - no windows open and then all of a sudden the screen gets bombarded. AVG is coming up clean so I'm a bit confused. Anybody have any ideas? Again, sorry if it's the wrong forum.

As far as I know this isnt the wrong forum.

AVG wont remove every type of spyware I suggest you have a look for a malware/adware removal tool.

Such as Windows Defender. There are tones to choose from.

See thats the problem right there...
Once you have it sorted.. consider using firefox. Its much much harder to infect with spyware.

    Anyway... www.merijn.org
download hijackthis and run it. You obviously do not know much about computers so paste the log file to http://www.hijackthis.de/ and it will tell you if something needs to be removed or if its safe.

AVG also have a spyware product. Is that what you're using or just the anti-virus?

Sorry, should have said I'm also using Ad Aware SE, it's coming up clean, just the usual stuff with a low TAC rating. I need to use IE6 (and specifically IE6) if I wanna use my laptop in college - where it's pretty essential.

One option to consider might be some program that's not working properly.
    Examine the system using ccleaner
Spybot s&d is alos free and does a good job.
I'd also look at the startup sequence and check what applications are starting up (use Start-> Run -> msconfig)(

Tighten up your IE security settings, get a firewall, check the system logs for the cause of the window openings, check process explorer for strange processes.

Have a firewall, will increase the internet security level.

I did a quick google and it seems for some people, this is the result of a recent program addition - I'm getting rid of a few unnecessary toolbars etc.

No harm, toolbars can be more trouble than they're worth. Especially if you have a few installed, can cause instability.
