It iritates me so much when people believe all the crap in the tabloids. Was just told about a story about Amy winehouse and how her jailed husband has spoken about her drug problem....if you read the whole story somewhere near the bottom it says it was actually a story written through his mother....! How could he give an interview? He is in prison!!
Also the story about the maddie kidnapping...they release a pic of a bloke that may have done it and then they paper goes looking for random portugese blokes that look similar and then label one as the kidnapper!! How do they get away with this!!!

Newspapers sell stories, they don't sell the truth (whatever that is!). Doesn't matter whether their stories are accurate or not, all that counts is getting the numbers up. It is an industry, nothing more.

In all fairness certain broadsheets print alot more utter bull and get away with it (and by broadsheets I refer to one published on Sunday.....and by Sunday I refer to the Sunday Independent)

The Sindo prints more utter untruthful poorly researched bile than the news of the world, The Star and The People put together.

yeah but why can't people just read the whole story.....not just the headline and then make the rest up.

Because they appeal to people with a lower IQ.

Similar people are the ones who discuss the events in soap operas as if they're real life. Or who discuss celebs like Jordan, Kerry Katona and Kate Moss as if they know them and actually care about them.

Couldn't agree more, I think the Liam Lawlor affair finally proved beyond doubt how the Sindo are worse than any of the tabloid rags. IMHO they represent everything that is wrong with the Irish media

Unfortunately the tabloids lack the journalistic sophistication of the Independent and the sort, where they have gourmet editorial chefs that know how to cook, season, and serve the crap.

    that's a bit unfair.....

....the Indo is full of gutter journalism and biased BS every day of the week.

i actually respect people who read The Sun more than Indo readers. at least most Sun readers know they're being fed a load of crap.

Sometimes I wonder if they even bother sending reporters to crime scenes or read the RTE news report and just add on a bit from the comfort of their office.

Case in point: a man was killed in the Ladyswell area of Blanch Friday night, in what is suspected as a deliberate hit by a motorist.

Quote from a local resident in The Herald went something like

"I cant believe it. This is normally a quiet area"

Anyone in Dublin 15 or even surrounding areas knows a deaf blind mute would find it hard to believe Ladyswell is a quiet area

Before I post any comments here, are we making fun of the gullible eejits that believe everything they see in the paper? Or is this where the people who believe everything they read in the tabloids congregate on boards.ie?

    lol

It's where people who read the broadsheets congregate and laugh at those who believe everything in the tabloids, while conveniently forgetting about the amount of times that broadsheets have been sued successfuly for telling lies.

Someone I know always took the stories in the News of the World as pure fact. That same person thought that Hitler's first name was Heil. So there you go.

I can't remember the last time I read a newspaper, tabloid or broadsheet. I get all my news through the Internet. It's just easier and you can check multiple sources to ensure the information is at least partially true.
