There's about 500 Euro difference in the prices of these two models, could someone tell me why? The LE46F86 has 100Hz mode support, but apart from that I can't tell the difference, would that be the cause of such a big price difference?

IIRC it also has a higher contrast ratio, 25,000:1 vs 15,000:1 and a lower response time 6ms vs 8ms. I don't know if they make any real difference though. The one thing I do know is that most people seem to prefer leaving the 100hz mode off. There's a thread about them on avforums.com

This is true , most people say its the best thing about this feature , the fact that you can turn it off.

100hz on flat screens is pointless , and is not the same as the tech that was ( and only applied to ! ) CRT's. Its an interpolation technology , and as with all interpolation technology , it introduces artifacts.

The general idea of it is that its supposed to smooth out fast movement , but there is no substitute for having a set that can do this without this technology , ie a set with a decent response time.

The worst of it is when it kicks in when its not supposed too , and you get weird effects like still people shifting a little with blur. There was a thread on here not so long ago called " Dead bodies moving " where a sony TV was having these issues.

What sort of money are both models going for?

I may know of a bargain on a Sony 46" set, but won't know for definite until it (hopefully) arrives on Monday!;)

The 46M8 is going for just under the €2k mark in both DID and powercity, not sure but think the 46F8 is a bit over €2500.

Directtvs have the 46M8 for about €1500 which is a great deal but I don't know if they deliver screens that big here, sent them a mail to ask but no reply yet.

I've been looking to buy one of these tv's for a while. I thought the price would have dropped in the Christmas sales. I've been mostly looking at the Le46F86 because its the newer version, although the only differences with the M87 Seem to be the dynamic contrast ratio and the 100hz, which most people suggest turning off anyway.

Komplett.ie have it for about €2,600
Powercity have it listed for €2,700, buy online for a discount €2,500

I've been looking at some UK sites, namely Eatay.com and 1staudiovisual.co.uk they have it listed for STG£1,400 and with the weak Sterling that works out just below €2,000. Delivery seems to be about 100-150euro which is good.

I'm a bit worried about purchasing over the web, especially from the UK but this forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055023296 has a few other buyers who have bought from those websites in the past and seem happy. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go for it. €2,000 seems the cheapest to get it anywhere, is there really any point spending an extra 600-700euro getting it in Ireland??

Any input? Anyone bought over the web from the UK? Would you opt for the M87 model or the new F86 model?
