As the title says my 500GB Western Digital hard drive is not showing up on my laptop, i dropped it the other night but it worked ok after that for a while then it just stopped working, the actual light still comes on and i can hear it when i plug it into the USB then it just stops and it wont show up on my computer, ive a lot of music and files on this and seriously cannot lose this data, i don't want to have to shell out a fortune too recover this data as im sure there is an easier process,id be grateful if someone can give me some help here, or even recommend a good cheap service i could use.

    Thanks

I've tried all available USB ports and it doesn't show up, how would i go about re-installing the drivers?

I've also tried it on my friends laptop and it's also not showing up on there either, when i plug it into the USB though it does make a noise as if it is booting up but then just stops.

I'm going to call Western Digital technical support tomorrow, hopefully they might able able to sort it.

id say that wd hdd is fubared

i had a 2 week old $hitgate freeagent desktop, 500gig, 400gigs full upwith all my stuff, tippled over on the carpet and bang.

no more good. did the freezer, tried to salvage the disk with a usb-sata converter, nada.

It was probably the static discharge from the carpet that did the damage rather than the fall :)

Western Digital tech support = useless :rolleyes:gonna get the IT guy on work to jave a look at it, worse case scenairo is that ill have to fork out lots of money to some date recovery place for them to recover the data, im hoping it doesn't come to this but that looks the only solution if it cant be solved another way, took me years to build up this music collection so there's no way im just conceding defeat on this one, where's there's a will there's way.

I can;t recommend Easy Recovery Pro more highly. My 500GB Seagate Free Agent went belly up, 300GB of data on it, drive wasn;t being picked up by windows, but Easy Recovery was able to read it and get all my Data back.

If your drive is spinning up you may stand a chance of getting the data back, its work the try if you get a copy.

Good tip, If you are buying a new hdd get two of the exact same, at least if he controll card goes on one you can use the card off the other to get the stuff off it.

cheers for that mate, did you download this as a torrent or did you pay for it?

I notice on www.download.com it's coming in at 499.99 USD which is too expensive, just wondering where you got your version from?
