    Hi All,

14 years ago got caught with a piece of hash less than the size of a pea and was convicted of possession. No trouble with the law since, is there any way to have to have it removed from record, I was young and foolish then and I have professional career now an may need to travel with work to locations that need a visa.

    Thanks

I got into major sh*te at the age of 16 - I am now 35. Young and extremely foolish with a dose of mental instability thrown in. I have been going in and out of the united states now for about 5 years. That puts me in the same time era as you. I dont think the pulse system goes back that far. If it did, I would have been refused into the U.S. long ago. I reckon you are ok as Ireland hasnt put my info onto the system so you should be ok. I wish I had have been done for a "bit of hash". Of course, I am respectable now and I made a new start.

A conviction (assuming that it is an actual conviction as opposed to an order under the probation act or a strike out & charity donation) can't be removed from your record at the moment, although there is a bill that might go through the dail (the Rehabilitation of Offenders Bill) which, if passed will allow convictions to be removed by the court.

For visa applications, it is not an instant refusal if you have previous convictions, it's a decision that the embassy will make.

EDIT: Here's a link to the bill if anyone is interested.
