    hello folks,

another post on this TV - the TH-**PX70 or TH-**PV70 so apologies if going over old ground. Have 2 questions on this, any advice much apreciated:

    1) I'm totally split between going for the 37inch or the 42 inch. Would you know if there's a striking difference in size. I'll be watchin hte TV from 9-11 feet away. cut out cardboard according to dimensions according to both, the 42inch seemed a bit too much. however, i've seen some threads sayin that people buying 37inch now regret not gettin the larger one. any views?

    2) Unsure whether to get the PX70 (UK version) or the PV70/PX71 (irish version).
For example: I can get the TH-42PX70 (UK) for £650 (around €880) or the TH-42PX71E (irish) for €1,100 from Komplett.ie.
Therefore, quite a saving. Delivery charges not really too much of an issue as can get it delivered to the North and bring it down.
I currently just have the basic NTL package (analogue i take it - about €20/mth). I take it that the UK version will not work with this?
So question is, will the UK PX70 definitely work if i upgrade my NTL to digital (about €5 extra)???

    Thanks again for any help.

p.s. if anyone looking for the cabinet stand, found one here:
    http://www.digitalconnexions.com/moreinfo.php?id=570
not sure if deliver here though....

I had same dilemma as you and in the end went for the 42PY70. At that viewing distance, the 42" will look great and give comfortable viewing experience.

If you aren't going to be using external aerial, get the UK version, the PX70. If you will be using aerial to get RTE1, NET2 then you will need the Irish/Euro PY70.
TBH, I have never heard of the PX71E version and would be wary of the exact specs. It might be an Euro mainland model no.

Are you sure you can get it for £650, that sounds too cheap. Make sure that includes the pedestal.
Richers Sounds have it for £800 with pedestal.

cannot recommend richersounds highly enough and they will deliver to your door for 50 yoyos. make sure they charge you in pounds and not euros, as the exchange rate is very favourable at the moment.

By the way I am sure the equivalent to the PX70 is the PV70 not the PY70.

As for the 37 vs 42, i initially wanted to get the 37 but found that greater value was actually to be had from getting the 42" and i do not regret it for a moment. its an excellent set and if viewed from the distance you mention it will look amazing! ;)

thats for the repsonses folks, all very helpful.

sorry, i was meant to say i can get the one for £650 from amazon:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TH-42PX70-Widescreen-Plasma-Freeview/dp/B000P0IW0K/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_1

You're right ongarite, no pedestal stand, but i'm thinking this is ok as am looknig to get the panasonic cabinet stand for £210 from:
    http://www.digitalconnexions.com/moreinfo.php?id=570

Also Scobious90, yer right in that the PX70 irish equivalent is the PV70 (not the PY70).

I'll be getting it from ntl so now presuming its ok to go for the PX70.

The one you link from richer sounds is about the same price (€1,100/£800) as the PX71E from Komplett.ie (thinking it must be a Euro model but must work here also):
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=338021

Regarding 37" v 42", someone said that you multiply screen size by 3.5 and that the distance you should view it at, therefore:
    37" = 10ft 10"
    42" = 12ft 3"

Just re-measured and going to be viewing from from 10ft to 12ft6inches. so may just get away with the 42" although think most of the street will be able to see it looking in from the window...........

so all in all i think i'll but the 42" TV only from amazon.co.uk and the cabinet from digitalconnexionsfor a total of £860, plus whatever dleivery, not bad?

    i think?

I have my 42" on the cabinet and to be honest it looks fecking brilliant. The cabinet is really really nice, 3 AV storage racks and cable tidy system.

I've a crappy phone pic I can upload if you wanna see.

    12ft back for a 42"?!?

    thats mad!

i have 2 and i sit about 10 feet from one and about 7-8 feet from the other and its grand.

and yes, the cabinet stand really finishes it off. i have one on the cabinet and one on the wall.

I have the TH42PV70 and watch it from about your distance. It blows me away. Do it - go for the 42"!

Deffo get the PX70. I researched it when I purchased and the PX71 (UK as well I believe, not Irish) had a couple of very minor advantages over the PX70 - can't remember what they were but they weren't €200 worth! The TV will work fine with your NTL but it won't display analogue straight from the aerial; this might be OK if passed through a VCR or DVD though - I'm not sure.

Also note that, to the very best of my knowledge, the PV/X70 is ALWAYS supplied with a pedestal stand.

pv70 comes with a pedestal, the px70 you have to choose what you want.. so it is possible to get it with nothing.

    thanks alot folks,

i'll opt for the 42" as per most of yer recommendations, hvin a few problems with buying the PX70 as UK vendors (including amazon.co.uk) wont deliver to ireland, north or south.

so anyways, i'll do more homework and eventually get this sorted and ordered so cheers for that.....

Amazon won't send any electronic items to Ireland:( Just be aware that the UK version of this TV will not have VHF capability, so it won't work with analogue cable TV (and may not work with your own aerial, as, depending on your location you may require VHF).

    Hi Ongarite / All

Do you know where I can buy / see the cabinet stand referred to in this thread?.....the link above is no longer valid and the web site no longer appears to have it anywhere!

Sounds good and might help me avoid wall-mounting. Other stands I have been looking at are too low (40 - 50cm in height).

Ideally I think a height of 66cm would be perfect.....not sure how much height the pedestal for the TH-42PY70 adds....so slightly less than 66 may do the job...

    Cheers!
