I have just bought an inspiron 1520 thru the Dell Outlet for €950 inc VAT. Its well specced machine, but I'am now getting a bit nervous about the machine.
Has anybody any experience of the Dell Outlet?
    Decis

I bought a inspiron 9400 from the outlet, I don't know a whole lot about Pc's but I am happy with the service I got form them, Pc works fine, good for games, videos etc.

Bought my laptop nearly 2.5 years ago and never had a problem.

I've bought from them several times. No issues. They are systems that were built for customers, only for the customer to cancel the order. You'll get some good bargains there.

The stuff from their outlets is guaranteed just like their new stuff so why worry?

The only negative thing about the outlet is that you cannot customise what you buy, such as a larger hdd, improved graphics or larger screen, you take what is there. You are either purchasing someone elses cancelled order or something that is repaired after a warrenty claim.

anyone who upgrades their computer / laptop from dell is insane. dell charge a fortune to upgrade ram and harddrives.

you would save at least 50% if you just bought a basic spec and upgraded it yourself.

I've found no difference between the Outlet and the Main Dell store to be honest. Dells quality is patchey on both. But its no problem to return a machine if your not happy. Distance buying and all that,. Nabbed some great bargains on the outlet, but you have to be quick to grab them. As they only appear from time to time. Most of the time its not that cheap tbh. Fast delivery.

I ordered a 6400 with CoreDuo 1.73Ghz, 2GB, 160GB for €400 incl VAT & Del. I know its the older model but I thought it was cheap enough. :D Just needed a spare machine.

I ordered a 1520 from the dell outlet last week and got it today. Good spec t7500 8600gt 250gb 2gb ram 1680x1050 screen, bluetooth etc

Problem is the screen. I have the 1680x1050 screen in the dell6400 I got last year and really love it and was one of the main factors is going for the particular laptop. But the screen on 1520 isn't good. First theres a cluster of dead pixels at top left corner, affects about 4 pixels (not too bad with the high res screen but still annoying). Second theres a lot of light leakage when displaying black, bottom fifth of the screen is greyish not black, the 6400's blacks are inky in comparision. Thirdly, there seems to be grainy effect or shimmering with a white back ground.

i think it will be going back to dell

edit: and the vista and intel stickers aren't even put on straight

Dell screen quality is patchy. Just return it and get another one.
