I got a N95 8GB sim free at christmas, works fine with the 3 sim card, unlimited data addon, been looking for skype on the net so I can install to the phone, but besides Fring and some other thrid party ones, I couldn't find the skype one, so I switch to X-series addon.

downloaded skype from my3, installed fine, signed in fine, but when I try to make a skype call to another skype user or even the skype test, I get a msg saying I do not have permission to use this service, please call 3.

called them, they said it wont work cos I don't have a 3 handset, they did say I can use the non 3 handset as much as I like but no all services will work.

anyone managed to get skype working on a Non 3 handset that supports skype and windows live messenger? I can't even install the MSN messenger that was downloaded from my3

    any input lads appreciated.

    cheers

I recall having issues installing MSN on my N80 - I think the way I got around it was to download the app to my pc along with the jad file and to install them using nokia suite. To download them on your computer you can use your phone as a modem and you'll be able to reach the skype download page - just take a note of the url when browsing to it on the phone.

skype downloaded and installed fine, signed in fine but can't call anyone, keep getting the msg from 3 saying I have no permission to this service please call them.

with msn I got it downloaded just a while ago from nokia site for the N95 8GB but it can't locate server to sign in.

    head wrecking

I have a Three N95 which I debranded to install v20 firmware. The Three Skype wouldn't work (same message as you got) for me until I upgraded to X-Series and now it works fine.So get back onto them...

Skype will work with the N95 branded or not if you have an x-series add-on.

I have had x-series on both branded and non-branded handsets working fine.

However I changed to business last month and only got around to requesting the x-series add on last week. They activated it on Tuesday and Skype still doesn't work.

They just can't figure it out (suprised?) but it comes up with the same message when it dials the Skype number.
They have reactivated (supposedly) twice and it still won't work.

I am using it with a Three Branded E65 and a Nokia sim-free N95 8gb and neither work.
I think your best bet is to lie and tell them you are using a Three branded N95, E65, or N73 and insist they sort it out - your paying for it!

How hard can it be to give you what you have bought???

cheers lads for the info, I just after over to my mates house, tried his 3 Skypephone, still the same. what a joke, they now have no choice but to sort it out for me, I told them, I have a 3 Skypephone here, 2 x 3 branded handset and a non 3 handset, 4 handsets in total and none of them works, so they said they going to investigate it???

I wonder when I get a call from them, I be ringing them again tomorrow. pretty much whenever I get a bit of time, I be calling till they fix it.

btw they did say the problem is from their end not mind, lol :)

MSN I don't think that got to do with 3, I tried using the wifi to sign in, same msg as trying to use 3G, locating server failed. it was downloaded from nokia site in the N95 8GB section, now I'm scratching my head again :P

a bit of update after calling them everyday, today I was told that there's actually a problem on their end with skype, a lot of users are not able to sign in or call anyone.

there's no date and time of when they will fix it, so for those of us who are not able to use it, we're basically paying for nothing

My Skype is working fine - maybe because they know I'd go to Sufolk street and strangle someone if it didn't. I'm guessing that, as I predicted, they oversold the Skype phone to the point where their network infrastructure has reached saturation point.

This is the way Three seem to be operating here - their marketing team would call it agressive business development - customers would call it something else.

I would call them back tomorrow and tell them you won't be paying for the addon this month and if they don't like that they can talk to your solicitor.

StRiKeR - is your skype working now?
I'm still down so I'd be interested to see if they fixed yours because they say the can't track the problem down on mine and it sounds like the same problem.

Postie, try an uninstall and reinstall - don't know why but that worked for me recently on the N73.

Tried that, tried everything..have tried it on three different 3 handsets.
Even tried rubbing the sim (!)

Problem is that Skype registers fine and receives incoming calls but when it makes an outgoing Skype call (0833333500) their server doesn't seem to recognise me and I get a 3 message saying I don't have access to these services.

They now want me to go to the three store and get a blank sim and re-provision the account. Problem is I just got my ports open again (which means I've got Fring) and who knows what will happen after they re-provision the account.

    Ah...the Three merry-go-round!

My friend works for three and I was spend a really long time to get my skeype work on my non 3 N95.and this is the solution.

if you are using a 3 pay as you go sim card, you need to top up with 10 euro every month to make the skype going.

if you are using a 3 pay monthly sim card, you have to get the X something add on

because to sign in to skype, the software only read the data from the iskoot server, and u can receive calls alright.but when u actually want to make a call from your handset, their system will perform a authorization check to see if you meet the conditions above,if you do,they'll connect you call,if you don't,they'll play these bloody recording messages.

I hope this will help you.

The generic version of the iSkoot client that Three's Skype client is based on runs fine on a non-Three unlocked Nokia E90. I posted about it here in the Current Status of X-Series & Unlimited Broadband thread.

just a bit of update, sorry haven't checked this thread for a while

I told them what bluefog suggested, but I gave them a time limit, I told them if they don't get it working before the bill date which is the 3rd of Feb, and that they charge me on my bill, since you know three only take credit card and direct debit, which mine is on direct debit as usual, I will pass the bill on to my solicitor and will be requesting recorded phone conversation as proof, they call me to try the skype call again on the 3rd, they had to leave it to the last day, well magically it is working from there on, typical huh??!!

I used skype via fring on a palm treo 750v with no problems. Using a HTC Universal at the moment and haven't tried skype on it yet.

I've even managed skype calls via fring with only GPRS coverage - there are so many variables involved though in each call that its really not a dependable solution.
