Scanning Old Pictures

I have lots of old pictures from when I did not have a digital camera that I have been trying to get online for ages. Other than internet cafe's in town, is there anywhere else I could avail of scanning facilities. I live in Dublin 15 and there is a library close by to where I live, not sure if they would have scanners..

I do not have the negatives of the photos anymore so I dont think I could go to a photo printing place. Does anyone know of any internet cafe's in the Blanchardtown area??

Sorry if this is not the right place to be posting this.

Hi Claire, I'm thinking from your message that you arent after an incredibly high resolution professional job for your pics but just a way of getting them to your pc to possibly print or play about with?
you may find that getting them scanned through an internet cafe or similar would work out more expensive than buying yourself a scanner and doing it yourself (assuming you have a pc or mac at home of course!) - scanners can be picked up extremely cheaply and even the cheapest will provide a decent result based upon my assumptions above (and you dont need to be 'techie' to set them up and use)

    hope this helps!

Hey thanks for that, I think I got about 4 photos scanned before in an internet cafe and it was quite expensive.

I only have a laptop though and no PC or Mac so the internet cafe may be where I get them scanned.

Elara have a Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 - flatbed scanner for €52.03, should work with most Microsoft/Mac systems dunno about Vista tho!
    and
from Komplett.ie you can get a CanoScan Lide 90 for €68.50, this is prolly faster and has better resolution etc.

    :)

When considering buying a scanner, you could kill a number of birds with the one stone (eek... no this isn't an animal welfare thread), you could go for a multifunction thingy - one that copies, prints, and scans. I bought a HP one - cheap and cheerful for about €90 a while back, Recently (over Christmas) i saw the same ones had been reduced to about €65. The scanner isn't the fastest thing in the world - the results are quite acceptable though and you would have the benefit of a copier and an extra printer. Just a thought. Hope it works out for you.

If you do buy Argos get the 3yr guarantee, its well worth it.

Another alternative is to ask for one on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FreecycleDublin/

I searched the site and ad 17308 looks promising.

    Best of luck,
    Rob
