    Hi,

I've got an iMac but want to install SQL Server. Whats the best platform to run on (Parallels, Crossover etc..)? Also, if I have to buy XP can anyone recommend a good, cheap and legal source? I see copies on ebay claiming to be genuine for between 30 and 100 euro...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Do you need the SQL Server running locally?

You could purchase a hosted solution for less than 50euro a year, and has many benefits over running it locally...

What are you trying to do ?

I'm looking to get some Microsoft certification so I want to install SQL Server 2005 on my iMac so that I can work on tutorials etc. (I think that the MS book related to the course has a 180 day licence).

Actually, thinking about it, if I could set up remote desktop on my iMac I should be able to log in to my PC in work, so I guess I'm looking to install XP for a start. SQL Server 2005 would be a bonus.

The MAc already has a MySQL install built in. Here is the how-to. Probably not the same as SQL but close enough maybe ?

That would be no use for SQL Server Certification.

WinXP running in a VMWare Fusion virtual machine does a great job of MS SQL 2005 for me. My iMac had 2GB RAM so I just give 1GB to the VM.

Thanks for the responses - its good to know that VMWare Fusion definitely works with SQL Server - looks like that'll be the direction that I take
