Sorry in advance if this has been answered/asked before but....

Is it possible to play .avi files on the touch without having to re-encode them?

    Cheers

I don't think so. I think it has to be either MPEG-4 or H.264.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Is that Videora fast?

Is there another option? Any custom firmwares that allow it around?

Keep an eye on this forum: http://www.corecodec.com/forums/index.php?topic=646.0

They're making coreplayer for iphone, which is a media player with dixv / xvid support. Unfortunately not free, and the version i had for my symbian OS phone a few years back, still required a conversion to a compatible screen size.

Its out in February, and not much information yet tho, but hopefully its better than their old versions.

Yeah i tried it out there. Took around 12 minutes for a 360MB file, not too long i guess.

    Thanks for the link alastair_doom
