The other half is thinking of getting one of these. Looked at a few 06 models today and had a test drive in a 3 door. Have to say i was quite impressed. Drove very nicely and interior space is reasonably good. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with one.
    thanks

The press have given the new Swift heaps of praise. It must be doing something right then. I think it looks great.

I hate superminis (mainly because usually, the people who buy them use them for grand-touring, shunning suitability for their needs in favour of a perceived saving in running costs) but if I had to buy one (and it did realistically suit my requirements) I'd go for the swift.

Thanks for the input guys. This will for the most part only see city use , if we take long trips it is usually in my focus. The dealer is to ring her tomorrow with a trade in price for her Puma, but it's looking like it wont cost a huge amount to change.
She really likes the swift and i cant see much fault in it, except that im fairly tall and i found the doors in the 5 door a bit small.

there's a MINI-ness about it, probably the windscreen/roof bit, it really works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭the magician

yea there's obviously the MINI thing going on. But that seems to be a good thing by all accounts. Would love her to buy a MINI but they're out of the price range this is the next best thing and some would say maybe even better.

It seems to benefit from the coolness of the mini but i think it's probably a good car in it's own right and the prices are pretty reasonable.

Im just glad i found a car thats not a Puma that she'll buy, she has a puma at the moment and it's one of the most fun cars i've driven but i think it's time for something different as we both drive Fords , I'm on my second Focus.Me thinks a bmw 320cd for me next.

My wife has one about a year and a half.
It really is a great car.
There was a recall for a handbrake check last year, so make sure that has been done on the one you're looking at.
The one thing I dont like about the Swift is the fuel consumption display, its only an instantaneous display and doesnt give you the average.
    Small gripe I know.

Swift Sport looks interesting. 1.6l and 125bhp.

Finally found a Swift she was happy with,a 2006 1.3 glx with 14,000 miles, got it for about the same price as most dealers were asking for a gl.So it has the alloys and air-con.

Picking it up on thursday from harmonstown Motors, worked out well as they do ford and Suzuki , her trade-in was a ford Puma so i think we got the best trade-in price we were gonna get.

Got €5k for the puma off of €12,750,Which isn't too bad considering the next best deal we were offered was €12,950 - €4k for the puma and that was a gl.

    Thanks for the replies.

Happy motoring, the swift is a cracking car.

They are the new Mini icon in my opinion.

Recent survey showed that they are holding there value really well, compared to other premium brands ie VW Polo's.

If I was in the market for a super mini, it would defo be the Swift.

Yea the value does seem to hold pretty well, We were looking at 2005 swifts but there wasn't that many and realistically the difference in price seemed to be only about €1500 at the most between a '05 and'06.

Weren't able to stretch to a '07 but i think after a few years motoring It should still be worth a decent mount, wont be doing huge mileage either.

We were also looking at fiesta's but for the money we're paying for the '06 swift it would have got an '05 fiesta. With the new model Fiesta(verve) out in the summer it made far more sense to buy the swift, The fact that it's a cool little car that drives quite nicely also helps.

Hi all. My wife bought her little "SS" 12 months ago new, she has done 23K kms, and apart from the handbrake recall (which turned out not applicable to her car)...has been a fantastic wee car! Very nippy, from the 93 bhp VVTi engine and yet good mpg returns. Superb spec (especially the GLX) for the price...well worth getting the GLX over the standard GL. No problems whatsoever. The ONLY gripe that I could mention is that with the low profile tyres, it does tend to exagerate any rattles and bumps, and there is a bit of a rattle coming from behing the radio area. This is only a small thing though!

We have been so impressed that yesterday we placed an order for a new one, which has very subtle changes, rear bumper slightly bigger, leather on steering wheel, alloys slightley different and rear lenses nicer.

(Mongey Plunkett in Finglas were VERY VERY easy to deal with and gave us a fantastic trade in....if anyone thinking of getting one, have a look there! Our 07 silver one is going there next week!!)

All in all we can highly recommend the Suzuki Swift 1.3 GLX!!

    Excellent Car
In An Ideal World For Us That Car Would Have A Nissan Badge And It Would Deffo Be Rivalling The Corsa For Sales At The Moment Imo

I learnt to drive in one and still drive it occasionally. Find it great, and my friend has no complaints about it either. Very easy to drive and no problems with it, though personally I find the seats a bit uncomfortable but that's my only gripe.

    The new swifts look great.
I drive an A3 1.6L at the mo and it is giving me nothing but grief so thinking about buying a 1.5L or 1.6L swift.
The problem is I commute along country roads and motorway to Dublin & I am fond of using the juice!!
Not sure the swift would be able for this kind of driving, perhaps one of ye owners may be able to tell me!!! :)

    Antique or not, but...

I'm looking into getting a swify for myself, and I see GLX going for 8,500! is it because of recession or they don't really hold value?...
Also I've read couple fo reviews saying that brakes aren't very good and paintwork is prone to chipping
