there is an outlet on henry st i think. hair dressers use the same stuff as what you get in the shop, they are just better at using it. there are different strengths and if you do it right it wont go orange, unless your natural colour is too dark.

No they don't. The stuff you get in a hair dressers supply shop is much stronger than a home dye kit. There is a reason for this. Hair dressers are trained on how to mix bleach and what strength to use, how long to leave it on for etc. You could give yourself serious chemical burns if you get this mix wrong.

Any hair dressers shop I tried (a few years ago) refused to sell me bleach as I wasn't a hairdresser.

I do not think you will find (pure)hydrogen peroxide anywhere.. trust me.. i looked, not for hair but for general use. H202 is excellent for everything from mouthwash to cleaning wounds. You can get it anywhere in the US, but i believe i read somewhere that you can not get it in Europe for some reason. Not sure why as its only water with extra oxygen. OK im sure there is more to it than that, but thats essentially what H2O2 is.

You might find it as an ingredient of a hair product though.

Last time i was back in the US i brought back a bottle of it. Its in a brown bottle, the same size etc as a big bottle of cheap Brown sauce.

we use that stuff for science experiments
befriend a science teacher and get endless amounts ;)

but seriously, that stuff is pretty dangerous, it'd be safer to save up and go to a hairdresser

Just get a highlighting kit from the chemists! Trust me, you don't want to use pure peroxide on your hair. At best your hair will turn green or snap off. At worst you could end up with chemical burns and blisters on your scalp!

OP, you sound like you don't have a clue what you're doing, the highlighting and lightening kits you get in chemists and supermarkets are perfectly strong enough to bleach hair. maybe you're thinking of dye like nice'n'easy or something.
if i was as clueless as you seem to be about this, i would either leave it alone til i can afford a hairdresser, or i would go and buy a permanent dye (like nice'n'easy or nutriesse or whatever) thats close to my natural colour, do a strand test, and dye over the whole thing and forget about it all.

Yes, but they won't sell to you if you're not a hairdresser. I've tried.

Maybe you guys have short memories but the men who tried to bomb London on 21/7/05 used explosives made from a mixture of peroxide and chapati flour. The bleach had been purchased from hairdressing suppliers.

And that is exactly what the OP should tell them if they refuse her!

Right... jesus I'm so dumb for not thinking of that specific date and specific type of flour when I think of hydrogen peroxide!

Unless they bought the peroxide from the shop that was being discussed here, it doesn't make much difference to the OP. For all we know the rules could be different in the UK or even between shops.
