just had three of the latest zen 4gb model returned all with the same problem

players are completly unresponsive when conected to several computers
i seem to remeber the older models taking a while to charge before they actually decided to wake up, anyone know if this issue is still present or anything that might help me out

i haven't actually been able to test them myself this is just what people returning the things have been saying so sorry if it's not exactly alot to go...

Sounds like a driver issue on the PC's you've tried it on.... or maybe they're trying to use it on Macs?

Have you tested out the returned units yourself?

having similiar problem here on a pc with xp2. a mate of mine bought a 4gb zen and with a bit of googling i found my way here! it wouldnt turn on until i rebooted (hold play/pause while turning on the power). the software, zen explorer? could not detect the player, downloaded new version and that wont even install. the player was not detected by the firmware update nor the autoupdate utility. it did however discover my sb_audigy and decided to mess around with my drivers which left me with no sound, problem was fixed after uninstalling all zen software. there were a few things i tried via creative support website.. rebooting the player, reformat.. changing a usb entry in the registry. none of this worked for me. ehm the player does however appear in windows explorer.. i can see all the directories and ive read/write access to the portable drive. odd? im gonna have another mess around with my services and see if ive overlooked anything.. after that i reckon ill advise her to return this product too! i know my way around computers i doubt the average consumer would have a clue where to start sorting out these problems.. and i reckon theres your answer :)

goodluck, will post again if i manage to get this sucker workin

I suspect your USB ports aren't up to spec. Try using different ports, computer, or an AC powered USB hub.

i doubt its that, i've 8 USB2.0 hi-speed ports with legacy support on an asus mobo and they work perfectly fine with all sorts of devices including various mp3 players by samsung, creative, apple etc. thanks for the suggestion though.

i messed around with my services a bit, turned on dcom, msdtc and all those other resource hogs, disabled firewall, anti-virus etc but still couldnt detect the player with windows mediaplayer nor the creative software.

if you ask me the problem probably lies with the mtp side of windows mediaplayer and the playforsure software. i read about a few people who fixed the problem after trying everything they could think of by doing a clean install of xp. removing mediaplayer completely and updating that to the latest version might do the job..
