So today is Australia Day. What does it mean to me? Well a public holiday and day off work on Monday and the perfect excuse for a piss up/barbie in 38 degree heat!

Plenty of Boardsies in Oz usually posting at this time so what are getting up to for the day?

P.S. As it's AH I expect some smart arse responses and stereotypes from those in Ireland

Is today the anniversary of the arrival of the first convicts?

I'm off to the pub in a few minutes. Might take in a bit of the festivities first though.

I'd say both The Woolshed on Parnell Street, and that Down Under place will be having stuff on.

Yeah I spent last year's in the Woolshed. Not a bad spot for a pint of Aussie brew, once you don't venture too far outside!

Yep, I like going there for the beer memories alright.

Jaysis, I'd love a bottle of something now. Crownie, Carlton Draught maybe.

None of that Toohey's shíte though. Oh no.

I myself am currently supping on a Carlton Draught that has been in the freezer for the last hour. Yum

aww come on narco! Aussies and kiwis get on great together. Except sometimes where sport is involved. Or when the kiwis claim that Russell Crowe is ours.

I'd rather go to an abo protest at government buildings than display some phony patriotism singing the national anthem from a pamphlet while waving a plastic flag around. I mean WTF??

Well this is my first Australia day outside of Australia for 27 years ... Been away for 10 months, 9 of them here. Haven't been very homesick at all, but Im feeling it today :(

Nevery thought Id pine for the heat (I used to bitch about it so much) oh and Im serouisly missing a bqq, an icy cold carlton draught and an afternoon out on the boat around garden Island & Carnac!

I think Ill skip out of work at about 3pm and head down to the woolshed for a couple of beers... Hope they recorded the hottest 100 and are playing it, and I hope I dont get stabbed on Parnell st after dark... I dont like it around there.

Wet T-shirt contest in the Woolshed Australian bar on Parnell Street tonight... Was in there yesterday before going to see 'My Bloody Valentine' (Go see it guys, seriously) Anyhoo.. Food in there is fab and there were only 2 girls taking orders, place was packed out and we still got served and had our food on the table in minutes... Unreal, cheap as fook too.. and NO, I don't work there..

    Oh look.. a plug.. :D

But Tooheys New has to be tasted to be believed. Mother of christ what muck

As for Australia Day, is celebrating Britain adding a notch to her colonial bedpost really for us?
    wikipedia wrote:
Celebrated annually on 26 January, the day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, the unfurling of the British flag at Sydney Cove and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.[2]

    I think Ill pass.

If you want a laugh just look at the tags for this topic :p

    Happy Australia Day!

EDIT: The tags were changed, but they were 'sheep shaggers' and 'escaped convicts'
