You would have to contend with The Hub which is sort of similar on Friday night. But keep me posted Id be interested!

Have you actually sorted a venue yet or do you have any experience / contacts in pubs in these areas? Most of these places would already have regular things on a Friday night. I might suggest possibly looking at the event listings pages of Entertainment.ie to see whats going on in these places. I would also suggest that if you dont have much experience to try and get something going on a week night first. Friday night on Camden / Wexford street would be a really premium night and club / pub owners might not trust someone without experience to get it right. They would be more inclined to let you go on a mid week night and then when you are succesfull give you a Friday or Saturday. Hope that helps.

Id suggest starting off in the likes of Doranns on a Monday/Tuesday night...getting the crowd and reputation of the night built up then move it later in the week.

As MikeHoncho said you'll find it very hard to get a venue to let you have their Friday ngihts without a solid reputation. Only problem is that you'll have the likes of Whelans and all the normal indie clubs to contend with.

Either way....good luck with it...keep me posted on what you decide to do!

kings of leon, blondie, smiths eh? It would be nice to see an "indie" club that was a little different than the ones that exist.

What you got there pretty much sums up the Whelans / Oak playlists and neither of them have changed much in the last few years except for the odd new release every now. I know that a certain number of floor fillers are always needed but a little bit of change and variety would be nice.

A night that reflected the sort of acts that get booked for Electric Picnic rather than the other festival is kinda what Id like to see. Theres obviously an audience for it.

Damn straight Toast. That's the kind of night id want to be starting if I ever got off my arse and did it.

firstly, off course i would keep you guys posted....i was thining maybey a monday night,.....ive been round to whelans etc and although they play that kind of music...thy play pixies-debaser, nirvana - smells like teen spirit, bloc party - banquet, blondie - one way or another, modest mouse - float on, joy division - love will tear, the smiths - this charming man.......dont get me wrong, these are good songs and good bands, but im sick of going to an "indie"(a word which i hate) club and hearing the exact same songs....these bands have loads of other songs....how cool would it be to hear some dfa1979, or a cool bloc party song like luno.

    now
im not from dub so i may make a few mistakes here

is dorans not a place for 17year old goths/grungers/emos.....my using of these words does not mean i like them, but its easy to get the message accross

i was thinking of maybe the hub/ 4dame lane/ carnival on a monday night first of all......

is it easy to set up drinks promotions in a bar that is not yours????

Did the Hub not lose their late license or am i confusing it with somewhere else?

I "think" I saw something on myspace to the effect that The Hub has got the late licence back.

The hub got it's license back after about a month.

You've got the likes of doyle's on a thursday/friday/saturday playing "indie".

    Whelan's most nights.

    Doran's is awful!

Midweek you have tuesday's in the hub.

Wednesday in Chemistry upstairs in SPY starting tonight (wednesday) which I have really high hopes for, being a long time chemistry goer! lol!

Most of those places listed play the same oul things as you said. Although the kind of stuff the chemistry lads play when its not banging electro is exactly that "electric picnic type stuff". You should check it out.

Down to the actual subject of starting a night... you have to start somewhere either early weekdays or sunday night etc. The chemistry lads started in citibar on dame street on sunday nights for a few months before getting the wednesday slot in wax. Just ask around. Talk to EVERYONE. And be persistant!!

Chemistry have been running their electro/indie night in wax (downstairs) for a good while now and are splitting it into upstairs aswell from tonight and keeping the indie and electro seperate!

Neon Love DJs play at the launch tonight which means it's going to be brilliant!

Sorry for the long post by the way! hahaha

You're better off at chemistry on wednesdays in spy man!
Just last night they opened up the 2 floors (wax and spy) and have amazing indie upstairs and great electro downstairs. And the drinks promos are unreal!
Such a good night last night!!!
    I'm in bits...
