    Hi all,

I'm picking up my t3 tactical tomorrow and i need some advice about bullet choice. I know there is a fast rate of twist on it so I was wondering if 40 grain bullets are out. If any body is firing 40 or 50 grain rounds I'd like to know how they are getting on. Thanks

    hi jonty
I,ve had a t3 lite for a few years now and I think the twist rate is the same as the tactical 1;8', I,ve found that anything below 55 grain just will not group well and I,ve tried most weights and makes,
the best I,ve found so far are remington accutips 55 gn,hornaday v-max 55gn ,and sako gamehead also 55 gn.
    I,ve tried from 45gn to 69gn
for practice and zeroing I use remington 55gn umc solids which have the same poi as the accutips and v-max
let us know how u get on with the tactical and is it the 20 or 24 in barrell

I have a tactical in 24" its not ammo fussy at all really i have fired everything from 45gr to 64gr and had good groups with them all.
It shoots 55gr hornady v-max's and 55gr rem accu-tips really well got a half inch group last weekend at 200yrds (ranged with the range finder) in really calm conditions that was with hornady 55grain v-max molys there expensive but really accurate and hard hitting;)

There a great gun, what scope are you going to sit on it?

Very normal for you Mark, remember you shot 3 rounds in nearly one hole with my hornet at 100 yards in windy enough conditions. For normal people ( as in average shooters ) space out Mark's groupings by a factor of 2 and you're doing just fine :D

Its got a 24 inch barrel on it. At the moment I'll be putting a Simmons Whitetail Classic 4.5-14X40 on it that I have spare. Buying the gun was a spur of the moment thing and tbh I haven't put much thought into it. I'll try 50grain rounds to start with and work up from there. It'll be mainly used for foxing so I don't see any need to go heavier than 60 grain weight bullets.

I have a sako 75 with 1;8 twist and the 40 grain v max load is my most used load in this rifle-capable of less than .5 moa.
    i also use 60 grain v max , 69 grain sierra matchkings , and 80 grain v max
for target shooting- i have used this rifle to break clay pigeons at 600 yrds using 60 grain v max and 69 grain sierras matchkings.
remember its the bullets length not weight that matters and v max bullets are long for their weight so you should be able to use them with good results.icon7.gif

I wasn't aware it was length not weight. Thanks for that Foxie

Heavier bullets are usually longer than lighter ones ..
hence the connection , after that you can launch into a discussion
on sectional density (SD) and Ballistic Coefficient (BC) ..

It all has a bearing on what weight /length will suit the twist rate in your barrel.
How much drop youll get and how much windage effect you'll get .

Suffice to say , the answer to that age old question ,in this case at least is that , "Size matters" :D

Thanks for all the info. I picked her up this morning and I'm mightily impressed already. I zeroed it at 50 yards because of crosswind and was able to put 3 bullets in a jagged hole using FMJ remington 55gr. I got American Eagle 50gr Hollow points for hunting.

You may find different ammo means different point of impact ?

I've also found hornaday v-max 55gn and sako gamehead 55 gn group best in my T3 laminated stainless.

Ah yeah, but the FMJs were just to get her roughly sighted. With a strong cross wind last weekend there wasn't much point "fine tuning" the zero at extended range.

Got my T3 tactical at last:D

Was hoping to get out today to zero it, but its too foggy:rolleyes:

    I went ammo shopping instead!

I already had 2 boxes of American Eagle 50gr hollow points.

I took a trip into Murrays and got a box of each of the following; Remington Premier Accutip 55gr @ €36.95, Sako Gamehead 55gr @ €21.95 and Sellier & Bellot Semi Jacketed 55gr @ 16.95.

I thought the Accutips were fairly dear, but the others were about right (I think?) and they had the best selection in Cork at the moment!

I cant wait to see how I get on with the Sellier & Bellot, they're grand and cheap, anyone else have any experience with them?

Well ware Murph have fun with it ;)

I always found the Accuttip to be amazing but pricey

Cheers BS, have you ever used the Sellier & Bellot?

Many years ago in 22 hornet and they were bad out of the CZ 527 I was using.

Never even seen 'em in 223

I used them all the time in my 9mm P226 and never had a problem with them, in fact they were far better than the Magtech that I used previously

I know alot of lads that swear by the stuff for their pistols!

I guess time will tell how they do in the T3;)

Worst description of sh1te I have ever used in a 6.5x55. I use CCI in my .40Cal Magtech is more sh1te IMHO

And they are a dirty bastardo in 12gauge. Corrosive and inaccurate czech Sh1te
Hornady in .223 all the way

So their 17 quid a box for good reason:(

I always thought they were cleaner in the pistol than the magtech, one of the lads has an x5 and got nothing but stoppages with magtech, switched over to S&B and it was fine:confused:

They also use boxer type primers, so I'm not sure about the corrosion issue?

reviews here, more positive than negative, we'll see tomorrow weather permitting!

In the shotty I meant corrosive
You get what ya pay for these days.
Fine for reasonable accuracy and value
just if I wanted a round it would be clean and accurate Hence Moly .223:D
