End of his international career? Nah, the guy is only 23. Should have been in the Italy 22 though.

It's kind of an odd move really.

Best of luck to him but why Ospreys?

Not good news for Ulster - Connacht should and probably will take the 3rd Irish HEC slot if not this year then next year.

Does this mean the end of his International Career?[/QUOTE]

    What international career?

I know he's only 23, but with the IRFU's unwillingness to selected players based overseas, will this affect his international career and could it be the reason he's out of the match 22

It's a good move for Bowe. Anything to get away from Ulster but I don't know how much game time he'll get with Ospreys.

Is this the start of a mass exodus due to all the contracts that are coming up for renewal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

At this stage the Ospreys will have more over seas players then actual Welsh players. Who may i ask is he more then likely going to replace? Still think he was robbed not being in the starting or at least 22 squad

Good move for him I reckon.

Yeah, it's very easy to rubbish Bowe, but he's only 23 and his been in sizzling form this season, and really should be starting on the wing against Italy, instead we'll probably have a Full Back or Centre playing there.

    Good luck to him.

Ireland selection should be on merit, but until the acolytes and EOS get their head out of the sand....

Always thought he was older than that. Plenty of time to pick up some experience and come back if he wants. Sounds like a good move to me

Not good at all and with more players set to leave as well.I think Ulster are going to be in big trouble as it will be difficult to replace Bowe and Neil Best(If he goes to Northampton) with decent Irish players.Trimble also could leave next year when his contract is up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭EdgarAllenPoo

Neil Best to Northhampton? Jesus Christ he'd be nuts. They're 4th in Division One in England. That would kill his international career.

I'd like to see him move to Connacht or failing that, Sale.

Is Isaac Boss' contract nearly up? Hopefully nobody will sign him and he'll go home.

It would be bad for Irish rugby to lose a lot of the Ulster players and maybe I'm delusional but with Ulster at the bottom of the heap is Connacht a viable option for these players?

i dunno, i know i wouldnt want to play for ulster, there is a real poisonous atmosphere up in ravenhill lately which has got to have been felt by the players. i'm from ulster and play my rugby in ulster every weekend, but for that one reason alone i wouldnt blame bowe, wilson and best for heading across the water

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭EdgarAllenPoo

Wilson would be an asset to any team and would easily be sign by one of the Irish provinces but for some reason if he were to go elsewhere I think it would be to Saracens or London Irish.

Northampton are top of the league, (think you may be getting confused with Nottingham) and will be in the Guinness Prem. next year. They're recruiting aggressively and have kept most of their top internationals/players when they went down.

Huge rugby town with massive support...their games have broken all records for divison one attendance...lots of cash floating around there too. Don't forget they're former Heineken cup winners, A move to them would be far from career ending, in fact it'd be quite smart from where he's situated at the moment.

That would kill his international career.
But not his bank balance. Maybe he sees that it will be hard getting onto the irish team with both leinster and munster developing quality back row players, and he took the easy route and plays for a few quid in england instead?

It must be deadly fun in the Ulster camp at time moment with their players seemingly not being able to leave quick enough. Who I feel sorry for are the fans who have to watch it all..

Sorry my mistake. Good for him if he can get a nice fat contract but lets also remember that Ulster are former champs too for what that's worth.

It seems to me that Ulster was so badly managed that Matt Williams may arrive too late to stop the decline. I know that sounds very doom and gloom but unless he can convince the players who may be leaning towards a move that things will change while he's in charge his appointment will have been for nothing.

Also was it really that smart to have so many player's contracts coming up for renewal at the same time?

Sale wouldnt touch him as the exceed overseas players by god knows how much .

Bowe must be very pissed of and i say in his mind he's thinking "Okay i scored two tries against Gloucester and set up the third, i played better then anyone on my team and probably the only true winger we have in the country thats on form i should at least get into the 22." Then Trimble and the Bests get in -_- Cant understand it for the life of me really someone needs to slap Eddie across the head numerous times to wake him up

Weird cycle that if Ulster fall then Connacht rise BUT i want to know what the hell is the IRFU going to do? They going do another Connacht cut funds and say "good luck lads"?? Someone needs to step in there and do something before it all goes to hell.

be interestin to see where trimble wud go if he decides to move.

I'd see Trimble going to either Gloucester or Leinster.

Mind you at the rate of speculation in this thread (which I'm guilty of too) you'd think Rory Best will be throwing lineouts to himself next season.

Does anyone know exactly who's contracts are coming up and who's signed up for Ulster (excluding Rory Best).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

I read somewhere that Ulster are chasing Nick Evans and Troy Flavell, good move for Bowe, Ospreys are on the up and worth a flutter in next years HC with the experience they have gotten so far in this years competition.

If Best goes Ulsters backrow could be in trouble.

this is very worrying news for Ulster - i thought a few people would stay and give Williams a chance. I hope this isnt the start of some sort of exodus.

Why are people saying its the end of Bowes international career? because of EOS's penchant for picking from the provinces? easterby still gets a regular game.

eddie has made no secret of the fact easterby is an old favourite of his.i think he might have been captain of eddies irish u-21 team years ago.

yeah i think people are referring to eddies obvious preference for home based players.if bowe wasnt getting much of a look in before,he wont be given many opportunities again while he plays abroad

We were discussing this over on PR. EOS has a direct hand in the devastation of Ulster. Those players who were trying to break into the team have realized that there is no point. Reportedly Bowe decided that if he can't make the 22 in the current climate (abject lack of wingers) then he's never going to. So why stay at Ulster?

And he's right. It's one thing to accept less money or a weaker side when it's enhancing your international prospects. But when you don't have any international prospects you may as well head off.
