Hi, I am an ACCA student and going to do F6(Taxation) this June. Plan to attend lectures and considering DBS or BPP. I know DBS has very good reputation for its tax lectures but some said their textbooks were not very good because they were too simple and did not contain much details, is it ture? I did not study accounting in college and have not experience so I would prefer textbooks with detailed explanation and examples.:( Just wondering how is BPP tax lecture compared to DBS? Is there much difference? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance:)

DBS is the best choice for Tax only because of Julie Hawkins. As people said she is the best in Ireland for the last 15 years.

Julie Hawkins, is your only man. You probabley won't need the text book with Julie. And her text book is excellent.

I did tax last June with Julie Hawkins in DBS. She prepares her own text books and lectures. She only rents space in DBS and has nothing much to do with the college.

    I followed her advice/study plan/tips etc and got 67%

I have a BBS and MSc from various colleges in Dublin and I must say that Julie is the best lecture that I've ever had

Hey I am starting the CIAM exams and want to know which is best for the Managerial level papers BPP or DBS?

I noticed the classes in DBP seem to be 2 hrs long vs 3 1/2 in BPP why is this? I would prefer to do less hours if they are just as good..

I couldn't recommend Mel Kilkenny of BPP highly enough - also has his own textbook - not sure whether he lectures in Dublin or not though....

Mel Kilkenny no longer works for BPP. He has moved to independent college on Dawson Street.

I was at Independent Colleges last year, they seem to have a very strong team of lecturers except for tax (only hearsay as I did F7 and F8 there adn the lecturer was top class)
They seem to have got themselves a good tax lecturer now as well, I haven't heard of him myself but had Julie Hawkins for tax and found her great she pushes you very hard. I am hoping to go on to F9 and P1 depending on results
Friends tell me DBS is the place for F9 and Independent for P1

My recommendations are F6 Julie Hawkins, F7 and F8 Dave O'Donoghue

For me the best choice is as follows:

Julie Hawkins is the best for F6 (DBS),
Dave O'Donoghue for F7 (Independent colleges),
    Umesh Rana for F8 (GCD),
Liam Doran for F9/P2 (Independent colleges)
    Shane O'Grady for P1 & P3 (Independent colleges)
Liam Doran again for P4 (Independent colleges)
    Eamon Staunton P6 (GCD)

    What is your experience?

Thanks for that Raindow, I am hoping to be moving onto F9 and P1 and appreciate the suggestions. Shane O'Grady seems to be the man for P1

I would agree with Julie Hawkins for F6 and Dave O Donoghue for F7 would maintain Dave O Donoghue is also the man for F8 but I didn't go to GCD so cann't comment on Umesh Ranna

Sweating weekend coming up waiting for a bit of movement early Monday morning. It will be tough digging up the books again but at least it will give us something to think about rather than all the doom and gloom

Good luck to all on Monday
