Colposcopy

I need to go get a colposcopy and I am worried. I just want to know if any of you have had one done and if it is painful e.t.c. I am not looking for medical advice, just wondering what other girls have thought of the experience. I didn't ask my GP too many questions on the phone because I was shocked.

    Thanks

its not too bad! its not the most fun i have ever had.. does not take very long and i did need big hug afterwards but worth it in the end!

I didn't find it any more difficult than a smear test. Takes a bit longer though (5-10 min maybe?)

Uncomfortable and I was emotional afterwards but more to do with my Mum having cancer at the time so it hit a nerve.

Last one I had was the morning I left to go traveling for few months so needless to say I was a bit all over the place.

You'll be fine but it's definitely a treat yourself to something afterwards kinda procedure in my book.

I had a colposcopy and like hunnymonster said it's no worse than a smear. When I had mine (in the States) all it consisted of was injecting some gel and "looking up" in what looks kindof like binoculars. If you can go at it relaxed and with a sense of humour (I found the machine humourous) it helps.

During my test they found a minor spot that interested the doc, so she took a small biopsy. That pinched a bit (well, they are grabbing a speck of tissue after all). After the biopsy I surprised myself by bursting into tears (I certainly didn't expect them - I blame hormones, not pain) but it was over and done with in no time.

I get them done every 6 months as a precaution and much prefer them to smears (if you can have a preference for something like this!), your legs are in an elevated position so not painful and you can look at the monitor to see what's happening. It's not the most pleasant experience but nothing to be afraid of. The nurses and doctors are usually great.

    I've had 4 or 5 colposopies.

They take about 10 minutes and are not painful at all. They are a bit uncomfortable (in the same way that a smear is) but not painful.

Cheers for the advice it's put me at ease. I thought it was really serious to be called for one after a smear but you have cleared it up for me. I was losing sleep because of it. I'll sleep tonight anyway. Have a nice weekend ya'll!!

I have had two of these done, there really is nothing to it, once you get over the embarrassment of having your legs up it stirrups! the nurses are always very helpful and as someone said before you have something else to keep you occupied by looking at the moniter that they will swicth on for you if you ask. Good luck, most of the time Colosopsys(SP?)are just a precaution and nothing more will come of it!

Had about two yearsof being called back for coloscopy/smears. Is not nearly as scary as it sounds. My irregular cells disappeared of their own accord after two years (this happens 50% of the time). But several friends of mine had higher levels of irregularities and went on to have the procedure. All absolutely fine now. You'rei good hands and have nothing to worry about.

Had 2 colposcopies done in the last nine months and it is painless, no problem there. However I have CIN3 and also needed the LLETZ procedure - this was extremely uncomfortable. The CIN is back and now I am expecting another LLETZ.

I had a colposcopy when 6 months pregnant. I had had my smear just before i got pregnant but was 6 months gone by the time the results came back.

It is a terrible shock but the procedure is painless. I didnt have a lot of time to worry as was brought in straight away due to the pregnancy.

I was due back Thursday for a follow up but was sick. Am CIN 2 and know little or nothing about this but am hoping that i wont need any treatment.
