ok, so i'm still looking for a fun in the sun convertable.
A modern MX5 was my first thought for the ultimate reliability.

But then i thought about a beetle conv. I always like volks.......had a mark1,2,4 golf..........

but, would you look like a gimp in this or is it a cool classic? Its a bit over the top if you ask me, and over priced. But would you?
    Thoughts please?

It's a very personal choice. I'd have the MX5 before it, but maybe that's just me. I certainly wouldn't think badly of anyone else driving it. Given the price/time of year, I can't see it selling too quickly, so if you do want it i'm sure you could do something on the price.

If you want something a little bit different, then this Beetle certainly is that..
Wouldn't be my choice, but certainly looks like its a very thorough job, and providing the mechanical bits match up with the job on the body i dont think reliability would be an issue.
However 12K is a big ask, when as you say the MX5 can be had for less. How about a sorted MK1 Golf cabrio?

This one is headturner :) Love 2seater beetles, always had, but more into the "classical" look.

12grand is a lot of money and you could shop around if you have those "few" quid to spare and if you really want one of these.
Buy a couple of VolskWorld mags to see what the prices are over the sea...

I've seen this car in the flesh, its looks really nice !

Depends on what you want, but if you really want a beetle you may find cheaper ones but ultimately spend a lot more bringing it up to the standard this one seems to be !

Having said that, if I were to buy a beetle soft top I'd want it all original, especially at that price. BTW I dont think there is a soft top which kind of restricts you use of it !

    I'd go MX5 !

Well ..one thing it sure isn't ..and that's a classic.

Originalisti will just frown at you and the plastic body of your beetle.
You will have pretty hard time (read loooong wait for the right kind of buyer) selling it on.

Having said that ...I kinda like it (which instantly discredits it in the eyes of most boardsters:D) but 12 k is a big ask. It might well have cost that much to bring it to its current state ...but I don't think it's worth that much.

It looks like a lot of work went into it but the style is about 35 years out of date:),metalic purple, chrome modular wheels, jacket up rear and oversize wings:confused:would that not make it classic?

I agree that 12k is pretty steep. You can make a Wizzard from a pretty ropey beetle because you replace so much of the bodywork with the bolt on fiberglass.

Like all non factory cabrios, if the guy who did the conversion didn't strengthen the chassis properly you will be in for a bouncy castle type ride followed by anything from cable/pipe malfunction to breaking in two.

I did up beetles years ago and even back then Wizzards were seen as a niche and very non practical ride.

Still it's up to you but 12k is a lot to spend on a beetle floorpan and a bunch of fibreglass thats cold, leaky and weak as hell.

Thought, that Wizzard kit is coming with all the brackets and "body strenghteners", hence the price...
Anyway it's 72 beetle, so not really one of the few classic, but one from a million, so no worries about other owners reaction here. Just checked the engine, 1.6 standard?, haven't seen any mention about unleaded conversion or any other mods to the engine, twin carb, etc... This should be considered as well - for 12big ones.

Have fiberglass wings on my own yoke and never felt like I'm doing something wrong.

€12k is crazy for a hacked beetle - you could buy a UK mag cover car for that.
