I was walking around in Waterford City (Where I live) and there is a store called funk it that have had Cheap AEG's, but they have now gotten more serious about them and have started to import CA, KWA and a few other high end brands, there prices are higher than othe places but if there are any ppl from the south east that into Airsoft.

Just thought that I would let ppl know, I don't really know the ppl in there but I thought I would let ppl know

yeah they are getting rid of the CYMA and going for the high end things cos they are selling more, but one can just hope that it helps promote the sport in the South East

moved back to the main forum, adverts is for personal adverts only

to be honest, its just another one of the gadget-shop type places that are out to make a quick buck while they can, generally they dont cater to genuine airsofters and are likely making ridicilous profit on anything they do sell

they are some what like that, but seeing that the south east has nothing, at least its better than nothing, it means that at least i can keep my stock of BB's up

Yeah they sell a whole range of crap (crap being the operative word) and then they do some funny high end RC gear and mini moto etc. Been a few months since I was last down there.

yea me and my friend used go go to the shop regurly to get bb's but have stopped lately as we've no place to play airsofty and the airsoft in south eat thread has dissapeared. we'd play with ya if you had a place. the shop used to be all cheap stuff with ridiculous prices now its decent stuff with un acceptable prices

Im surprised at that. There is a load of areas around waterford and tramore with onl buildings and fields. I would have thought thatit would be to hard to get some permission. I always found down there that it wasn't hard to find someone who knew someone. Insurance may be an issue though...

I don't think that's really a fair judgement to make against a shop which would have much higher overheads. I wouldn't see them selling cheap stuff as a bad thing either, that is after all how I ended up getting into airsoft. When your not into the sport and see the cost of high end stuff it seems awful expensive and they would probably assume people wouldn't be so willing to part with that amount of cash.

Having a varied range of stuff in the shop means they can't specialise and probably won't sell as many so it a big outlay with no guarantee of returns.

Have they been contacted and asked to join up to the IAA in principle?

:D Sounds like a great shop.

Hey i was wondering do you have the new Sportsline CA's in?
You do? Thats great! Ill take an M4, 8000 bb's, six bottles of poppers and a rampant rabbit.

Its gonna be one hell of a night...

yeah that would be the shop with the bongs and the dildo's, you get smashed and stick a dildo on the end of an AEG...

in term of getting places in waterford it all depends some places might let you for a once off or if some knows some and is willing to let them on but i don't think that they would let ppl on on a regular occasion...

Of course they havent ... why would they? Right now there is no requirement for them to do so.

You have to understand how places like "funk it" and the erstwhile "Funked Up" in Bray operate. A bit like the weasels selling anything to anyone at T4BB these guys watch the fads carefully and pick and choose what will be the hot item. They import a large quantity of the stock and flog in over a couple of months using fire-sales and faux-close outs to clear the remaining stock at the end. Very little ever has lasting appeal hence the swords (mores the pity), tat, tack, sex toys, poppers, mobile phone facades and birthday cards with lewd messages. Airsoft to these shops is just another popular, slightly taboo toy which will sell like hot cakes for a while.

Nothing wrong with this business model per-se but it doesnt jive with the IAA ideology so I doubt that they would be applying for affiliation anytime soon, unlike are own Eirsoft, AirsoftEire, MIA and IAS.

I am going ask them if they are going to join the IAA, I heard them say that they were to test the stock they will be getting in as they got a couple of cheap chinese brands that were over the 1J limit and they sent them back straight away

Never said they did, I as referring to them as examples of that business model.

We'd have to be very certain we could trust them to follow the rules. Profit can oft overcome ethics and I wouldnt want to associate the IAA with the kind of money grabbing attitude I witnessed at T4BB.

Don't mix up the packages ... that could get dangerous in the dark.

  • Registered Users Posts: 161 ✭✭Ironbar

Don't know if this guy in Funkit has a clue what he's selling. It could be hot stuff. I don't know if he even chronoes the stuff. Prices are mad as well.....
