My pay check this month seems to be about a grand down from last month....?

Am I being hammered from tax or what, havent actually received my pay slip yet but I doubt mistakes were made? is the current tax year different than 2007? I havent a notion about this stuff.

I am leaving this job soon can I claim tax back when I finish?

Ask your HR dept or manager why your wages this month differ from last month. Did you get a bonus last month? that may be why they're lower?:)

Did you start your job late in 2007? If so, you would have built up tax credits from earlier in the year and hence your net pay for the last few months in 2007 would be higher than normal.

As regards claiming tax back, your cumulative pay and tax going to your payslip for your next job. Therefore if it took three months to get another job, you would be due a certain amount back due to unused credits and cut-off point

If you only worked 3 months of last year, then 12 months worth of tax credits would have been distributed over those 3 months.

This year, your employer has started to apply them on the assumption that you will be there for 12 months.

You say that your employer is sending you to Japan. Will they be continuing to pay you here in Ireland? Or will you be an employee of a Japanese company?

If my company was sending me to Japan, I would be looking for an advance for travelling expenses, or a lump sum to cover expenses.

The work has been my first since 2006, so just working from mid october until march ish.

company are japanese, I have no idea about tax-refunds. I would imagine I will be paid in yen and have a new account in japan.

so can i claim tax from october to march? I am also getting rent covered while I am here in dublin, also taxed......(of course) is that possible to get back?

I got a loan to pay off at the minute so need maximum funds

Is very possible that you are on emergency tax but you will only find that out when you get your payslip. If this is the case then you will see an "e" somewhere near the tax figure on the payslip. Did you give in a P45 to your employer when you started? I do know that emergency tax can be crippling and it increases by the month unless you sort it.

well i got my slip, basically they never paid my rent and did a cock up.

but i am still windering why i was taxed over double compared to last month? is this an administration error or new tax band?
theres no 'E' on my slip, seem to be on tax band N, same as previous pay slips.

    thanks!
