Can anyone recommend good spikes for Cross Country? Thinking of running in the next few BHAA races.

3 different types. You can get short distance track spikes (sprinting, no heel), long distance track spikes (middle and long distance, heel) or cross country spikes (heel and grips on sole). So you're probably better off with cc spikes. I just have cross country spikes and use them on the track aswell.

Make sure you get some different sets of spikes ie different lengths. They usually come with 5mm spikes in them. These are for the track. Then most people would wear 7 or 9mm for dry cross country races but maybe 12 or 15 for wet and muddy days/courses. They are 4euro a set. I have a set of 5s, 9s and 15s, do me fine. Have 15s in now and can't see these coming out till at least March it's been so wet.

    Hey Racing flat,

Where can you get the actual spikes to put into the shoes. I've been using spikes and I think they just have the standard 5mm that came with them.

    Thanks,

I get mine in Arnotts in Dublin for convenience. But runways in parnell street, sportsworld in terenure, both dublin and John Buckley's in Cork would also have them off the top of the head.

You'll notice some diference in this weather if you've been using 5s (might as well have put butter on your feet:D) and you change to 15s.

I got a new pair of spikes myself a couple of weeks back.

Got them in Sportsworld in Terenure. I take a size 11 and found it hard to get a pair in Elverys or arnotts as they only have sizes up to 10 for some reason.

They aren't specialist cc spikes but are middle distance track ones and I have found them to be perfect. I'd agree with racing flat get the long spikes in. I have 12s in at the moment.

I got mine in Amphibian King. They have a fairly decent range of cross country spikes Asics, Brooks, Puma, they were the ones that were there off the top of my head. They also had the actually spikes all the way up to 15mm for a fiver.

Very difficult to locate a pair of XC spikes in Dublin for some spooky reason (size 10.5 UK), Arnotts only go up to size 8 and Elvery's only go up as far as size 10 according to the sales assistants. I am currently waiting for 'RUNWAYS' in Parnell St to get-in a pair of Saucony Kilkenneys & a pair of Mizuno KAZE II for me to try on ~ Fingers crossed.

P.S. Amyphybian King in Bray are usually very good with all things running, but even they are currently out of my size ~ must be the time of year?

I could go-on about trying to locate a long sleeve running top (size M) in anything other than BLACK ............... but I wont :)

    I got these:

They're pretty good or if your looking for cc specific spkies, try these:

The spikes themselves can be got anywhere, I get mine in Elverys, but im sure they're at any half decent sport shop.

I ended-up getting the 'Saucony Kilkenny XC' Spikes (60 EURO) from Runnways in Parnell St Dublin ............

Very Happy Now ~ and they chucked-in a long sleeve running top for free :)
