It's been done before I know, but I've only got 30 mins on my lunch to go out and try to shoot something while the sun is shining.

    More misleading thread titles!
    Where's the filling station/car dealership!? :(

Not a bad picture, but a different angle may have made it a bit more interesting.

nice shot there man, the water is very high huh., what kind of lens did ya use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,944 ✭✭✭pete4130

Thanks. It's another one with the Sigma 15-30mm. I never used it on 35mm thinking it was way too big all those years ago. It's the main lens that I use now.

@City-Exile, I changed the spelling. You know, I googled how to spell it correctly and still managed to put the incorrect spelling in the title of this thread AND on Flickr?

If whoever gets sent down by RTE to take a photo every time there's a story about someone being up in court retires, you're in!

    I like.

I think the fourcourts would look better if those tress were removed. Strange I know, but justified I think. Also, If you could take the photo from 1st or 2nd floor level it would be a good angle, me thinks

Pretty cracking shot I reckon. Says a lot for the Sigma 15-30mm too. Nice one.

The building in the photo is certainly The Four Courts.

Nice image. Always hard to get a good image of it.

I see the sky is kind of darkened. Is that a filter or processing?

Nice shot Pete, really does say a lot for the Sigma

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,944 ✭✭✭pete4130

Regarding the sky, there is no filter or special processing applied to it. It is a 5 (or 7?) shot hadheld HDR which could have something to do with the way the CS2 merged the different exposures for the sky. It could be a slight "halo" effect from merging the files into the HDR as the darker areas seem to mimic the outline shape of the building line.

As for the spelling, I incorreclty had it tiled "Forecourts" originally, just to clear that up!

Nice pic, thanks to the port tunnel there are no trucks to ruin the image.

great take - i thought when i looked at it earlier that it was just a tad soft on the focus side but perhaps thats to do with a 5 shot handheld HDR rendition???? I love the sky colour(s). I know what the guys are saying about the angle and generally i don't go for low angles myself but in this case i'd make an exception - i actually think it enhances the perspective.

ok. three things i'd do to it. (1) straighten the horizon just a tad - very minor this is. (2) next i'd clone out that pesky crane 1/3 way over from the left (sheesh - i mean do crane drivers show no respect anymore!) and (3) i'd blow it up to a large format, find a wall somewhere big enough and show it off!

    Cheers.

    Thanks AnCath Dubh,

You're right, it definitlely is soft. It was worse before some sharpening was applied. I had to lean my cam on the quay wall to get a somewhat conistant sequence of shots for the HDR so thats where the low angle is coming from. Believe me, the horizon is tricky to work with.
I'll admit the horizon isn't spot on. It's tough tto get straight with the such a wide lens.

just wondering did you use a polarising filter or an ND filter

Hi Trish, no fliters whatsoever on this one. I think its probably to do with it being a HDR photo giving it that textured effect and the gradiant look to the sky. It's impossible to get a filter on the lens too, the front element is like a football!
