Hit a kerb last night, should I get it checked out?

Was leaving house last night and turning a corner, looked down to turn on heat, next thing I've hit a kerb with front left wheel. Was just coming out of 1st gear so not going too fast, but it was a juddery bump - the hubcap got snapped out and the edge of the rim on the wheel looks a bit flattened for about 2-3 inches.

Hub cap snapped back in ok and to my uneducated eyes, the tyre looks fine. I'm just wondering now if I should replace the whole wheel or if I've maybe mucked up the axle or something and should I get it checked out by someone? Drove to work this morning as usual and didn't notice any differences in performance of car.

Any comments welcome (yeah, I know I was stupid, so let's just leave those ones at the door, 'k?... )

Most here are autocondriacs and will probably tell you that you're better offgoing to a mechanic. Ideally, a mechanic with wheel alignment gear so if he deems it to be okay, he can track it for you too, but maybe you will end up having to get a clean bill of health and take it eslewhere to get it tracked.

Alternatively, you could get a tyre centre to look at it but you won't be able to trust their judgement completely.

Keep an ear out for rattling/ tramlining or steering pulling to one side.

im sure weve all clipped a kerb at some point man :).

id take it to a tyre specialists to get the tracking checked on the car as that can get knocked out of alignment and cause wear on your front tyres.

wouldnt hurt to let the guy check the wheel rim while youre there.

I did something like this before and cracked me brake discs. Do no harm to get it looked at.

I would get the tyre in question checked also. You could have damaged or weakened the inside of the tyre wall which may not be visable from the outside. This could increase the chances of a blowout. To be honest I would probably replace the tyre altogether.

Does your car have power steering? If so, check you're not losing fluid - especially on full lock. I did the same to my car and ended up having to replace the steering rack :(
